One Big Thing: FENCE Horse Trials #FeaturedFriday
Registration is now open for the FENCE Horse Trials in Tryon, NC, which will take place April 11-12th. What’s exciting for the local riders this year is that they’ll be trotting into arenas of brand-new footing, recently refreshed by the venue over the winter — and there’s pretty much nothing we love more than freshly-laid footing.
We wanted to throw it back to a highlight EN did of the FENCE Horse Trials that we recently uncovered from aaaaaaaall the way back in 2014, in which Leslie Wylie wrote:
“Straddling the seam of Areas II and III, FENCE Horse Trials is known for its cozy ambiance, creative courses and challenging terrain… FENCE is the kind of lower-level event that I always walk away from thinking, ‘That’s what it’s supposed to be about’, and this year’s incarnation was no exception.”

About FENCE HT from USEA:
The Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) Horse Trials in Tryon, North Carolina runs once a year as a part of Area III’s calendar in mid-April and offers Beginner Novice through Preliminary levels. FENCE is open year-round to equestrians, hikers, and birdwatchers, and hosts 9,000 elementary and high school students each year as a part of their outreach programs.
FENCE is also home to Therapeutic Riding of Tryon (TROT), a program that provides equine assisted activates to adults and children with physical, development, and cognitive disabilities. The equestrian facility encompasses over 300 permanent stalls in 11 barns, three lighted all-weather show rings including a large covered arena, and is equipped to host hunter/jumper, dressage, driving, steeplechase, Pony Club events, and even rodeo in addition to horse trials.

Save the Date: Entries for the USEA Intercollegiate & Interscholastic & Alumni Cup Eventing Championships open on March 31st!
Team spirit always goes above and beyond at these Championships, and this year’s spirit contest will have 5 components: Barn Decorating; College Fair; Hobby Horse Championship; XC Jump Decorating; and of course, Overall Spirit, Sportsmanship, and Camaraderie.
