I had a little time before the PRO Derby Cross in Wellyworld recently, at the Winter Equestrian Festival to browse the show grounds, and of course it left me gobsmacked. I enjoy it for a day or two purely as a spectator, but the sheer display of wealth, and the competitive drive outside the show ring to display one’s worth makes me uncomfortable.
It seems you can either go two ways. A) bling bling:
and there is no shortage.
Or B) classy. Antares might be a good example of the second option. Lots of beautiful leather goods – saddles, girths, boots, I’m in heaven, and helmets?
Antares added helmets to the line three years ago, and at first, their rep, David explained that they are more expensive because they “are better, and they are better because they are french!” Duh! Then we got into more detail. We did have to interrupt our conversation at one point to rescue a few saddles from the driving rain so excuse the break.
