Oregon Eventing Update

Hot Dog on a Coursewalk

As a lifelong east-coaster, I know that we tend to think about eventing solely existing on our side of the Mississippi, but that just is not true! I’ve started to fantasize about experiencing the events out west myself, and from all accounts I’ve heard, it sounds like a complete blast. When I learned more about Inavale Farms HT, I was interested to hear a first hand account of how the weekend shaped up. Thanks to Maris Burns and Kelsey Devoille of Next Phase Eventing for this quick update on how the dressage and cross country was riding yesterday.

From Maris and Kelsey:

It’s been an interesting day down at Inavale Farms Horse Trials. The weather has been quite different than the usual Saharan heat! There was a straight downpour in the middle of the intermediate division, but otherwise the course ran fairly smooth. The corner proved to be a bit tricky for some of the riders, coming off a shorter turn after the water. Its been wonderful to see some of the California crew come up this year and support our region! James Alliston was leading with Jumbo Jake after the dressage but after some time penalties dropped down to third… being caught in the middle of the downpour probably didn’t help! Karen O’Neal is currently in the lead after a clean and fast XC. Maya Black is holding the lead in both Preliminary divisions and Ashley Loucks is first in the Young Rider Preliminary.

Next Phase Eventing came down with a handful of students and led 3 of the divisions after dressage, showing that our hard work over the winter paid off!

Show jumping should be quite exciting tomorrow due to its elaborately decorated course…. in true Inavale fashion! Good luck to all the competitors!

Beginner Novice has already wrapped up at Inavale, but Intermediate through Novice show-jumps today. I hear they have a really impressively decorated show jump course, including a wild rubber ducky jump!  [Live Scores]

Go west coast eventing!
