Today would have been cross country day at Burghley Horse Trials, and while we unfortunately won’t get to watch a set of horses tackle a new 2020 Big Bad Burghley course it’s the perfect opportunity to take a look back and relive a bit of Burghley history. For starters, if you haven’t already, you need to read the story of how Allison Springer and Sinead Maynard turned the disappointment of not being selected for the 2012 London Olympics into the ride of their lives at Burghley a few weeks later, as it is superbly told by Sally Spickard.

Need more of the Burghley cross country fix? Check out a number of specially released videos of rounds from years past.
