Saturday Links from Tipperary

In memory of VDL Ulando

This Saturday is marred by the tragic accident that occurred in Georgia yesterday involving the Pollard Eventing team and resulted in the death of an incredible athlete, VDL Ulando. I saw this horse jump around Fair Hill a while back and I was stunned at his talent. We send our deepest condolences to everyone involved. I know I speak for all of us trailer-drivers when I say an oblivious car while carrying precious cargo is just about my worst nightmare. I have many times fantasized about creating a law that requires all licensed drivers to take a class in truck and trailer driving before being allowed on the road, but alas, it cannot be so. Please everyone, be cautious and aware out there!!

In other news, my (kindof) hometown event is happening this weekend, and although I am not competing, I am cheering for all my compatriots as they gallop through the finish flags! The Virginia Horse Trials has always been one of my favorites, mostly because their cross country course and terrain truly separate the men from the boys (so to speak). Victoria Jessop and Desert Mystery lead one division of the CCI*, and Rowdie Adams with RF Blistfee lead the young rider’s division. In the CIC**, Lock N’ Load leads the way with Jessica Schulz in the irons after the only clear jumping effort in the show jumping.      [Website]  [Scores]
