A very sweet update from 5* rider Zoe Crawford, whose partner for Kentucky in 2021 and 2022, K.E.C. Zara, has made a return to competition with young rider Abby Wilberding in the Beginner Novice at FENCE in North Carolina.
“Three years ago to the day I shared that Zara had picked up an injury and would retire from eventing,” Zoe wrote on social media. “She rehabbed from her injury incredibly and came back to full work. She looked incredible and felt great but with new horses to produce she stayed in light work when there was time. There was also a hospital stay and rehabbing again from running through a fence earning a lot of stitches, because nothing has ever been easy with her. But today, at 20 years old, Zara made her Beginner Novice debut with Abby Wilberding in the irons. In typical Zara fashion she made a scene at the start box acting like she was ready to go 5* again. Abby handled her beautifully and Zara mostly kept it together 😂 at least once out the box!”
We love seeing horses getting a chance to enjoy the sport at an easier level and teaching a few lessons along the way. Go Zara!
