For this year’s USEF/USEA Summer Horse Trials at Stable View, entries were up nearly 50% with 149 riders competing in Beginner Novice through Preliminary divisions. Smiles abounded as riders embraced the summer weather and competitive atmosphere.
The June 22 one-day event began with three dressage rings on the grass. Later in the morning, riders competed over Marc Donovan’s show jumping course in the Outdoor Arena on the Attwood Equestrian Surfaces footing.
The show jumping phase shuffled up the placings going in to the cross country phase, where riders braved the heat on Mogie Bearden-Muller’s courses. Strategic irrigation and a heavy storm the night before ensured Stable View’s world-class cross country course provided excellent footing for the competition. Horses and riders alike enjoyed the misting station to cool down after their ride.
As always, Stable View’s loyal volunteers kept the day running smoothly. Huge thanks to all the volunteers, staff, officials, and sponsors who make these events possible!
Winners of each division received a lovely leather halter donated by Aiken Saddlery and a $100 Gift Certificate to the FITS Riding Outlet in Aiken. Congratulations to all the winners!

Fifteen of the competitors prepped for competition by spending the week prior to the Horse Trials at the Area III Young Riders Camp hosted at Stable View. Allina Bell organized the week for the campers and brought in Julie Richards, Leslie Law and Hilda Donahue to teach the campers. The campers were conveniently able to stay in the on-site accommodations at Stable View and use the state-of-the-art Pavilion as a gathering place for meals and entertainment.
