Terrific Thursday News & Notes from Devoucoux

It's On

It is this weekend that I sadly admit for yet another year I will not be able to grace Montana with my presence, and I acknowledge the pang that I feel every time Rebecca Farms comes around in the summer, knowing I’m not there. I am always so impressed with the pictures and stories that my friends relate to me from the Event at Rebecca Farms, I can’t wait to get there one year! The YEH Series was completed yesterday, and Robyn Fisher Nash with Caddilac FS Z won the 4 year old division with an impressive 85.8% while Tamie Smith won the 5 year old division with Fleeceworks Cinco with an even more impressive 88.1%! Go Young Event Horses! Check out photos from the USEA here.

Terrific Thursday Notes:

Woohoo!! Equestrian Sports rank #1 in hardest summy Olympic sports! Not included: synchronized swimming or trampoline. [#1 Hardest Olympic Sport = Equestrian!]
I don’t know how many of you read “other” news sites, but recently in the big “real” world, there has been this giant hub-bub about photographer Joe Klamar for his portraits of the US Olympic athletes. If you haven’t seen the pictures, you probably should. They are…..a little bit priceless?? Keep an eye out for equestrians like Reed Kessler in the mix. [US Olympians Look A Little Ridiculous]

Speaking of bizarre uniforms and crazy pictures, the British Event Team made some really bizarre faces in a photobooth. The article, mainly about Zara Phillips, mentions that Team GB athletes went to pick up their “kit” on Tuesday which is designed by Stella McCartney. “I’m very excited, honoured, but also nervous,” admits Zara, as she follows both her mother and her father’s footsteps in competing on the Olympic Eventing Team. [Don’t Sweat it, Zara!]

Love Cavalor? So does Twizzel. Will gives us a little hint as to his success with the old boy, and tells everybody straight away that Cavalor is pretty much the reason Twiz still pings around those big courses like a young’un. Twizzel enjoys Strucomix Senior as well as Endurimix, and eats it up like Christmas morning. [Cavalor enters the European Awareness]
Here we have a really cool video of Shane Rose with his Olympic mount Taurus (who turns 10 the day after SJ at the Olympics!) having a chat with us about the travel arrangements and preparations to fly from Australia to England. Do horses experience jet-lag?

Two things I did not know: Carl Bouckaert competed for Belgium twelve years ago, in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and that he is known outside the horse world for being a founder and owner of the third largest carpet mill in the United States (Beaulieu Group LLC). One thing I do know: Carl and Mensa are going to kick butt at this year’s London Olympics. [Go Carl & Mensa]

We all wondered when we would see RF Rovano Rex back in action after his veterinary resignation from the US Team selection process, and Marilyn Little-Meredith has just announced her European tour. She is heading to Aston Le-Walls for the Advanced and then Malmo CIC3* in Sweden. [MLM Press Release]

Easy contests with the potential for winning loads of great free stuff from Kentucky Performance Products??!!!! What did you say?? Yeah, that was pretty much my reaction too. KPP has a few contests going on right now, including the chance to win a year’s supply of Summer Games Electrolytes or win a supplement of your choice. [Winners Chosen Weekly]

Event TD, Joan Fleser of Esperance, NY was on the Condordia cruise ship disaster.  She has been on the news a number of times and has an interview airing today at 1opm ET on Rock Center with Brian Williams. [Check it out here]

ESPN does a series called “Bodies We Want” every year, and 2012 includes jockey Mike Smith, butt-nekked with a horse licking his bald head. I tried to figure out how to ease into that link, but there really was no clear answer. [Bodies We Want, Olympic Style]

The International Olympic Committee continues to talk with Saudi Arabia regarding their refusal to send female athletes to the Olympic Games. The Human Rights watch is urging the IOC to refuse Saudi Arabia the right to compete at all due to their violation of equality rules in the Olympic Charter. [Boo Saudi Arabia]

I. Just. Can’t. Resist. !
