The Sun Shines at Pau

Cross Country!

While the championships at Le Lion were deluged with rain last week and unfortunately cancelled, champion riders and horses have travelled a bit further south for Les Etoiles de Pau, or the Pau CCI4* and CIC2*. We hear that the sun has been shining non-stop, which should help dry things out for a wonderful competition. The forecast predicts possible showers on both Thursday and Friday, but clear, cool, and beautiful for Saturday and Sunday, so let’s keep our fingers crossed!

The lovely organizers of Pau have agreed to allow riders who would have participated in the Mondial du Lion (and who have the required qualifications) to compete in the CIC2*. This means the number of registered riders for this event increases from 49 to 55. Even in the two star, we’ve got some heavy hitters, like Ze Terminator, Chris Burton, Caroline Powell, Laura Collett, Jean Teulere, Andrew Nicholson, Mark Todd, and Ruth Edge. Dressage for this division begins this afternoon, and continues tomorrow.

The CCI4* of course, is loaded with the big boys, including our own two: Colleen Rutledge (looking for her 4th clean 4* cross country with Luke) and Buck Davidson. Check out Jenni’s preview for some excellent superstar stalking action.

Last year, to nobody’s surprise, WFP won while Mary King won the HSBC Classics Series for 2011.
