Thoroughbred Incentive Program Expands 2013 Calendar

The Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.) announced this week that it has greatly expanded it’s 2013 calendar of events by approving more than 375 shows across all different disciplines. There will be 1,500 opportunities for Thoroughbred awards at over 375 horse shows in 36 states and Canadian provinces. Some of these shows are offering awards at multiple shows in a series as well as series-end awards. Thoroughbreds will be able to compete in recognized competitions in Dressage, Eventing, Show Jumping, Western events, and even AA Hunter competitions.

A new aspect of the 2013 rules is that riders and owners will be required to obtain a free T.I.P number to participate in these competitions. To do so, you simply need to visit the T.I.P website, and apply for a number under the category of “Thoroughbred Owners”. You will need your horse’s registered name (or dam’s name and year of birth) or tattoo to obtain a T.I.P. number.

T.I.P. will disburse $100,000 in prize money, ribbons and prizes, including saddle pads, stall plaques, coolers, halters and tote bags.“In addition to awards for shows, we have renewed the out-of-competition awards,” said Werner Leshney, legal associate for The Jockey Club. “Winners of the Thoroughbred of the Year Award and the Young Rider of the Year Award will each receive $5,000 and other prizes.”
