The Chronicle of the Horse has finalized its third sale in as many years, with French-based media company GRANDPRIX taking the reins. GRANDPRIX will look to expand its reach and its mission of “ringing together a global community of enthusiasts, professionals, and advertisers around its media platforms.” In the shuffling, several Chronicle staff members, including employees with decades of experience, were laid off. No primary reasoning has been given for these changes, nor do we know yet how the new owners will move forward with the publication, which has been in operation since 1937 and remains the largest English equestrian publication in the country. Listed in a press release announcing the sale, GRANDPRIX’s objectives are “modernization of formats and platforms, revitalization of subscription and distribution offers, expansion of editorial content, and enhanced international coverage of major equestrian competitions.” Read the full release here.
The next USEA Grooms Program meeting will focus around the key topic of Supporting Performance: Navigating Pressure in the Groom’s Role. Olympic Groom Emma Ford, 5* Groom Dr. Tyler Murray, and Olympic Show Jump Groom Margot Thomas will share strategies for handling the pressures of the groom’s role, both in and out of the ring. This session combines discussion on the emotional and practical demands of the job with the chance to troubleshoot everyday challenges grooms face at competition. Dedicated eventing volunteer Dr. William H. Henry passed away last month at the age of 95. Dr. Henry committed countless hours as a volunteer to Area VI eventing activities including the Ram Tap Horse Trials (Fresno, California), and Galway Downs (Temecula, California). He was also a regular fixture as a volunteer for many years outside of the area including at The Event at Rebecca Farm (Kalispell, Montana) and as a volunteer at the Kentucky Three-Day Event. Watch India make history at Cornbury House last weekend! Manvendra Singh became the first Indian event rider to win an FEI international class on British soil for many years when he took section J of the Uvex-sponsored CCI2*-S at Cornbury House Horse Trials in Oxfordshire on Declan and Kitty Cullen’s Grand Marnier. The pair completed on their dressage score of 31.7.
