Good morning Eventing Nation! I hope that you are having a wonderful morning, accompanied by your sleepy dogs and a tasty cup of coffee, wherever you are! Anyway, let’s get down to business. This morning marks the official beginning of Rebecca Farm, one of the biggest competitions of the year. It hosts divisions from 2 year old Future Event horses all the way to a CIC3*, with two CCI divisions as well. There are over 700 competitors, and most people drove more than 24 hours to arrive there, which is pretty darn crazy.

The first horse inspections for the CCI1* and CCI2* are this morning, followed by the beginning of dressage for the national level horse trials. FEI level dressage doesn’t begin for any divisions until Friday, so they get a nice day to relax and prepare and recover from their travels!

News from Around the Globe:

Lucinda Fredericks may have retired the 20 year old Headley Britannia from official Eventing competition, but that doesn’t mean she can’t still kick some butt. The pair took on the Express Eventing competition at the CLA Game Fair, and won over all other combinations. “To be as versatile and sound still at age 20 proves Brit to be a true professional, I have been so lucky to have had her as the biggest part of my success throughout my career to date. It wasn’t that she won the competition at the weekend it was how she won it in pure style and was ahead of the competitors at every point of the competition” said Fredericks. These ponies don’t mess around at the 2013 European Pony Championships. Put away everything you know about ponies, because these little monsters are super fancy sport horses with short legs and a mean competitive streak. Naturally, the dressage championships are being dominated by Dutch and German ponies, and if you want to see some seriously cute dressage stars, click onwards. [European Pony Championships]

Eventing Radio Show #258 includes Marilyn Little, Lainey Ashker and Alison Stackpole. Marilyn talks about working in both the eventing and show jumping worlds, and gives us a peek into her stable full of incredibly talented horses. Lainey and Alison check in with their OTTB adventure! [ERS #258]

Darren Chiacchia makes the local news with his multiple comebacks to equestrian sport following a horrific accident at Red Hills, a meningitis infection, and even some scandal. Darren has survived quite a few misfortunes in the last few years, but hopes to qualify for the WEG next year, and return to the upper echelons of the sport where he once was with the lovely stallion Windfall. Darren is also writing an autobiography to chronicle his stories. [Local Equestrian Overcomes Hurdles]

Let’s talk about an addiction we all have….boots for our horses. I literally cannot own enough different types of boots for all of my horses. However, I have a favorite pair, and they are my Equifit Velcro Open Fronts. My big horse has sortof weirdly shaped legs, so he has to have the memory foam insides, and the velcro is perfect as a closing mechanism because it doesn’t pull too hard or too soft on any one point, it fits him to a T. Check them out at SmartPak, because at only $94.95 with your USEA discount, you can’t afford NOT to have them! [EquiFit Velcro Open Fronts]
