Happy Thursday, Eventing Nation! This weekend promises to be quite exciting, with an unbelievably packed field of horses at Morven Park for the Area II Championships starting tomorrow, as well as many horses having their last run before Fair Hill CCI3* and CCI2*. I’m going up myself, but just to run Novice on my baby horse, and I’m crossing my fingers and toes that it isn’t the Novice Olympics, because it’s only her second run! Ah well, despite that, I will still really enjoy watching my fellow riders jump around the huge Morven Advanced track, and try to keep my yearning for that level again in check.

The Eighty Dollar Champion is now making his way to the big screen, with a film in the works about the life and career of rider Harry de Leyer and Snowman. It will also include the rider’s other famous horse Dutch Crown, and footage and stills of the National Horse Show during the late 1950s throughout the 1980s. Snowman won prestigious classes only two years after being saved from the slaughter truck, and his career lasted five years. He was well known for his calm disposition and willingness in the show ring. Snowman was inducted into the Show Jumping Hall of Fame in 1992, and has been made into a Breyer horse model, now a collector’s item. [Snowman’s Story To Hit The Big Screen]

Sadly, the Fall Ark Horse Trials has been cancelled due to lack of entries. Abbie mentioned this yesterday, but on closing date organizer Abbey Dondanville had only 23 entries, when she was expecting around 125. The organizers will be issuing a full refund to entrants, but feel that the AEC’s contribute to a period of time where event entries are down. “Whatever region [the AECs are] in, for about a month after you see decreased numbers,” she said, adding that many people simply cannot afford to compete in both. She hopes that numbers will be better next year with the AECs moving to Texas. [Fall Ark HT Cancelled]

Feel good story of the day involves a determined teen and a reject Trakehner competing at Devon. Allison Semanchik of Oldwick, N.J. was your typical horse crazy girl at the barn all the time doing chores and begging for rides because she never had a horse of her own. Inferrous was pronounced dead in utero and then born as a runt, and was slowly brought back to health to become a lovely dressage mount for the young girl. [Iron Willed Teen Competes at Devon]
