Peter Barry’s longtime partner, Kilrodan Abbott, was officially retired in a ceremony on home turf at Bromont this past weekend. The 17-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding carried Peter around the world, representing Canada at WEG in 2014 as well as at the London Olympics in 2012.
My favorite memory of “Eddy” will always be watching him at Rolex a couple of years ago. That horse just made it look so easy. As if I could hop on and kick around a four-star course and he would hold my hand the whole way around. Always with a kind gleam in his eye and pricked ears hunting the next fence, Eddy will be a missed presence at the upper levels, but he has more than earned himself a long retirement.
Many props to Peter and all of Kilrodan Abbott’s connections on such a successful career that we will remember for years to come. Now go enjoy that grass, Eddy!
