Looking Ahead: This weekend marks the final competition of 2012, Pine Top Thanksgiving H.T., and today is the opening date of the first USEA competition of 2013, Ocala Horse Properties Winter I H.T. (January 5-6). What’s the next weekend circled on your eventing calendar? Have a look at the 2013 Omnibus here.

Feel-good Story of the Day: When the owner of Mrs. Medicott, the three-star horse ridden by Sweden’s Sara Algotsson Ostholt, expressed interest in selling the mare this summer, Sara couldn’t come up with the funds to buy the horse herself. Then a friend set up a a Facebook group, “Saving Mrs. Medicott for Sara Algotsson Ostholt,” to which people could donate money–and they did. In about two week’s time between 8,000 and 10,000 donors raised almost 100,000 euros, and Sara was able to to keep her horse. Heartwarming! [COTH]

Meanwhile, in Australia: Eventing may be shuttering up for the winter here in the States, but in Australia the sport is kicking into high gear via Australia’s International 3 Day Event in Adelaide, the second leg of the HSBC FEI Classics™ 2012/2013. The competition, which features CCI4* and CCI2* divisions, takes place this weekend with top riders including Olympians Shane Rose and Stuart Tinney vying for the win.
