The USEF COVID-19 Action Plan had specific instructions about masks, but I didn’t see anything about pants. Baby Brooks Maynard took advantage of this gap in regulation for a little fun in the sprinklers at Stable View over the weekend. To Tik and all you horse show dads out there, we appreciate you!

Tuesday News:

Beezie is one of the most iconic show jumpers of our time, but she’s been hinting at retirement. So, who will fill her shoes when she does? She’s outranked men time and time again, but oftentimes she finds herself the only woman at the top of the field. Noelle Floyd explores just how she got so good. [Will There Ever Be Another Beezie?]

There’s a place for everyone in horse sport, and no group believes that more than the International Gay Rodeo Association (IGRA). “… it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, a butch or nelly — everybody can find a place within our community, within our rodeo circuit.” [A Place Within Our Community: The International Gay Rodeo Association]

We cannot keep using the excuse that a financial barrier is the only limiting factor in our sport. There is a blatant lack of diversity, and the first step to becoming more inclusive is for each and every one of us to take some time for self reflection on our own biases. Whether you consciously acknowledge it or not we all have these, and they could be creating an unwelcoming environment. Together, we can make eventing a better space for everyone.
