It’s a gorgeous day here at Kentucky Horse Park, which hopefully bodes well for the remainder of the weekend. The weather forecast looks like there may be a spot of rain coming our way on Friday, but here’s hoping we’re in for another great weekend of weather for Rolex.

The riders had a competitor’s meeting this morning, and afterward many of them headed out to hack or walk the cross country course for the first time. I chatted with Laine’s mother, Valerie, for a few minutes, who said that the Ashker clan is thrilled to be in Kentucky. I also caught up with Daniel Clasing, who is contesting his second CCI4* here with Houston, who seems to be adept at making monster cross country courses look like a handy hunter round.

Tim Bourke and Luckuan Quality are here contesting their first CCI4* representing Ireland. Obie is an absolute doll and looks quite nonchalant about the fact that he’s one of the two youngest horses at 9 years old about to run around at Rolex.

Tim was kind enough to fill us in on his spring preparation as well as his strategy for this weekend.

Stay tuned for much more from the Bluegrass State!
