Weekly OTTB Wishlist Presented by Cosequin

OTTBs are among the most prominently represented breed in the eventing world. Each day, hundreds of ex-racehorses find themselves at the end of their racing career and in need of a new home. Luckily, organizations such as CANTER, New Vocations, Recycled Racehorses, and many more are always on alert for new horses that are ready for second careers. Each week, we'll be bringing you a few OTTB ads that caught our eye. Keep an eye out here for your next eventing superstar!

In wandering about Facebook and various other social circles, we’re thrilled to see that many OTTB owners are putting their name in the hat a chance at the prizes in this year’s Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover. Don’t let this handsome guy’s name fool you! Devient Behavior (Ecton Park – Jabber, by Minneapple) is a 17hh gelding foaled in 2007, and he’s been described as nice to handle and a sound sport prospect for his second career. This guy has been retired since 2012 after racing 19 times, and is being ridden almost daily at Fairmount Park in Illinois.

Next up this week is Buckingham Gate, available for adoption through Second Stride Inc. in Prospect, Kentucky. If you’re into Irish Thoroughbrds, this guy is what you’re looking for! Buckingham Gate (Galileo (IRE)Nell Gwyn (IRE), by Danehill) is a 15.3hh, 6-year-old gelding who raced 24 times, finishing his career in December of 2014 at Gulfstream Park.

Buckingham Gate was retired due to knee irritation, and is reported to have non-issue ankle calcium in the front; additional evaluation from Second Stride is pending.

Our third horse is a handsome 7-year-old gelding by the name of Tanner Me Boy, available through New Vocations’ Marysville, Ohio location. Tanner Me Boy (ChangeintheweatherSaucy’s Fury, by Furiously) raced 26 times and has been retired since March of 2014. He stands 16.1 1/2hh and is said to be a sweet horse who tries hard and enjoys having a job. He’s a forward thinking horse, and will be best suited for an intermediate or above rider.
