Day One of competition at the 2014 World Equestrian Games is officially in the books! Today, the reining, dressage, and para-dressage horses riders duked it out for the first time, and both the German and the U.S. teams for each sport are currently atop the leaderboard going into Day Two.

Team USA reining rider Andrea Fappani and Custom Cash Advance lead after Part 1 of competition today, scoring a 224.0. Currently, the podium is occupied by the U.S., followed by Belgium and Germany.

After the first day of competition for the dressage riders, Germany’s Kristina Sprehe and Desperados FSH lead the individual Grand Prix competition, which is also a Grand Prix Special qualifier, after scoring a 78.814%. Riding for the Netherlands, Hans Peter Minderhoud and Glock’s Johnson TN are in second on a 74.357% and Great Britain’s Carl Hester rounds out the top three with Nip & Tuck, scoring a 74.186%.
Team USA had two riders to compete today: Adrienne Lyle with Wizard (72.0%, seventh place) and Tina Konyot with Calecto V (69.643%, 17th place). Steffan Peters and Legolas 92 as well as Laura Graves and Verdades will compete during day two’s competition.

Carl Hester Talks to Horse & Hound
Team Great Britain is off to a solid start in the Para-Dressage competition after day one. Grade 1B rode today, and Lee Pearson with Zion are on top after scoring a 77.960%. Pepo Puch, of Austria, with Fine Feeling S earned a 76.520% for second, and Silvia Veratti with Zadok, riding for Italy, round out the top three with a score of 72.0%.
