Whitney Mahloch and Military Mind are the day one leaders of the Advanced division at Chattahoochee Hills.
Winners of the first phase, Whitney and “Milo,” a 13-year-old off-track Thoroughbred (Military x Smart Balance, by Beau Genius) are the only pair to remain on their dressage score — a 29.3 — after Hugh Lochore’s cross country.
Karl Slezak and Fernhill Wishes, a 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse (Chacoa x KEC Galway Bay, by Gildawn Diamond) owned by Karl and Kirk Hoppner, currently hold second place. They were second fastest in the group, picking up 3.2 time penalties for a score of 34.60.
Allie Knowles sits third with Katherine O’Brien’s Morswood on a score of 43, which includes 11.2 time penalties. Allie’s first ride, Katherine O’Brien’s Ms. Poppins, is also sixth after a clear round and 15.6 time penalties. Alex Green holds fourth place with Fernhill Limited Edition on 46.20 points. Alex is also 8th with The Fernhill Fox on a score of 59.8.
Pathfinder Ellie O’Neal had 17.6 time penalties with Zeta for fifth place on 48.9 points. Kirsten Buffamoyer piloted Hurry Murray around fault free with 14.8 time penalties to sit 7th.
Following a wooded bridge crossing, the offset walls at 7AB proved to be the most influential. Lindsey Lanier fell here from Severance Pay. Ninth-placed Joe Meyer, 10th-placed Julie Wolfert and Iowa Lot Of Money, and 12th-placed Jade Anderson with Fernhill Oreo each had one stop at the B element, and 11th-placed Nicole Aden had a stop at the A element with Truckee Bash. Nicole was ultimately eliminated after a stop at 14, the first of two corners in the back field. Jesslyn Woodall’s weekend ended early at the 15, the second of these tricky corners with The Luckdragon.
