We are very, very proud to report that one of our own, Tilly Berendt, has been named the 2019 Journalist of the Year by the British Equestrian Federation. The BEF Journalist of the Year award recognizes great journalism in equestrian sport, celebrating the work of a written journalist, broadcaster or photographer who has gone above and beyond to promote equestrian sport over the last year.

Besides her tireless work for Eventing Nation — and frankly, and unfathomable word count — Tilly also dedicated herself to increasing awareness of our sport to a broader audience. I’d like to bring attention to her piece in The Telegraph about Piggy French’s monumental win at Badminton this spring. If you haven’t yet, please give it a read at this link. In addition to spreading Piggy’s success far and wide, we can also thank Tilly for popularizing the #YearofthePig hashtag. Where would 2019 eventing social media be without Tilly?

“It’s absolutely unbelievable to win this award,” Tilly said. “I never for a moment thought I would do so. It’s been an incredible year for eventing, certainly for British eventers, and to win this award particularly for writing an article about Piggy French is so poignant and special. Not only she an unbelievable rider to work with and interview, but she represents a story of hope and climbing back to the top that I think anybody can relate to. To be able to tell that story is a privilege.”

From the entire team at EN, we’re “chuffed to bits” that we get to work alongside you. We can’t wait to see the stories you produce in 2020.
