Rolex Kentucky Cross-Country Course First Look

Derek di Grazia has certainly thought of everything on this year’s Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event cross country course. I was able to get a sneak peek of the course before its official opening to the public at 1 p.m. EST today, so enjoy these preview photos. This course, as usual, will test accuracy, as many questions are quite technical when it comes to holding your line and committing.

A couple of staple fences are not being used this year, such as the Sunken Road, but there are plenty of updates to keep the course fresh. Fence 14 begins with a nice looking keyhole fence, and there is also plenty to do at the Head of the Lake.

The very interesting fence 16, the Angled Brushes.

I am personally quite interested to see how fence 16AB, the Angled Brushes, rides, as looking at them head on makes them appear to be essentially side by side. Fence 15 looks like it will feed the riders right onto the correct line, but lining up the brushes and committing to the striding will definitely be challenging.

We will have much more detailed course commentary coming your way in the next few days, as well as the official Rolex course preview video hosted by EN’s good friend Frankie Thieriot, so stay tuned for much more.
