Karl Slezak’s season hit a speed bump when he broke his arm earlier this spring, but now he’s back on top — literally as he won the Advanced this weekend at Chattahoochee Hills with Fernhill Wishes.
Karl and the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse (Chacoa x KEC Galway Bay, by Gildawn Diamond), who is owned by Karl and Kirk Hoppner, were the only pair to jump clear this morning around Chris Barnard’s track. They finished one second over the time for a final result of 35 — 12 points ahead of the pack.
Allie Knowles had one down with each of Katherine O’Brien’s horses, Morswood and Ms. Poppins, to finish second (47) and fourth (55.7), respectively.
Ellie O’Neal and Zeta were third after having one pole down and 0.8 time penalties. Their final score is 53.7. Kirsten Buffamoyer and Hurry Murray had three down and 3.2 time penalties to end the weekend in fifth on 71.6 points. Joe Meyer and Buccaneer were sixth with a three-phase result of 71.7.
Alex Green and The Fernhill Fox were 7th (77.4), Julie Wolfert and Iowa Lot Of Money were 8th (95.6), and Jade Anderson finished 9th and 10th with Fernhill Q and Fernhill Oreo.
Alex Green withdrew her other ride, Fernhill Limited Edition, who was fourth after cross country. Overnight leaders Whitney Mahloch and Military Mind ran into trouble in the show jumping where two stops ended their weekend in elimination.
The Intermediate was won by Ellie O’Neal with her promising up-and-comer Zick Zack. They had one rail down to finish on 42.1. Allie Knowles piloted Kilcannon High Society into second place on a final double clear round, and Hillary Irwin was third with Harry Cotter on a score of 43.3.
Go eventing.
