Lucinda Fredericks and Flying Finish bested Mark Todd by 2.55 points to win the first leg of the 2012/2013 Express Eventing Series, held today at London’s ExCel Arena. Express Eventing is run in one day, consisting of a freestyle dressage test to music; arena cross-country course; and a show jumping course immediately after, in which riders have the option to erase four points from their score by clearing a joker fence. Express Eventing is a wonderful way to promote a modified version of the sport to spectators; with names like Lucinda, Toddy, and WFP supporting this exciting new version of eventing, it’s safe to see we’ll continue to see its popularity grow. The remainder of the Express Eventing series will take place next year at the Lincolnshire County Show, the CLA Game Fair, and the RDS Show in Dublin, with an additional venue not yet announced. In addition to the individual competition, riders also competed as teams; I will post team scores when they’re released..
