Video of the Day: Structuring a Flatwork Ride

This week’s video from Evention is all about structuring a flatwork ride. As Dom Schramm appropriately quips, some of us view dressage as “a torturous, mind-numbing, inconvenient phase that gets in the way of the jumping.” But Jimmie wisely counters, “It’s here to stay, so we might as well do the best we can.” Dom and Jimmie break a dressage workout into four different parts: warm-up — getting the horse forward, free, and in front of your leg; bending and suppling, test work — riding in more of a competition frame and improving movements; and, lastly, the warm-down — allowing the horse to stretch out the muscles he’s been using. Also, it’s worth checking out this week’s video just to see the great mustache Dom is growing in honor of Movember, which seeks to raise awareness for men’s health issues, like prostate and testicular cancer. Go Dom and Jimmie!
