The eventing community has been abuzz since the USEF released its Spring Training Lists on Friday. I offered some commentary on the lists here, focusing in particular on some notable riders and horses left off the lists. Otis Barbotiere, Boyd Martin’s Olympic mount, was one of the more surprising omissions. I speculated that perhaps Otis was experiencing some ongoing unsoundness issues we didn’t know about, or that his rehabilitation wouldn’t be complete in time to go to the spring training sessions. Boyd blogged about Otis’ absence from the lists yesterday, confirming that he believes the USEF did not place the horse on the list due to the timing of his recovery. The good news is Otis is trotting up sound and currently hacking 40 minutes a day. While Boyd said Rolex might be a stretch at this point, he’s optimistic that Otis will be ready for Luhmuhlen and Pau. Go Otis.
