Thursday News & Notes from SmartPak

Let the WEG insanity begin! Let the WEG insanity begin!

Good morning, EN! If you didn’t notice from the photo above, our Instagram was hacked by super-groom Meg Kep, whose current most important charge is none other than The French Princess himself. We reluctantly gave Meg our Instagram account to go crazy with as she and Sinead Halpin Eventing prepare for the trip to Normandy to take on WEG. If you haven’t already followed us on Instagram, be sure to do so immediately to keep up with the insanity that is sure to ensue! And as for the Chinch kidnapping, well, we have no further comment.

Thursday News:

Exciting news: Morven Park Equestrian Center is expanding! Renovation plans include replacement of the outdoor arenas and, later, a Grand Prix field and new barns, among other things. A groundbreaking celebration has been scheduled for trustees on September 7 and for the public on September 19, from 4-6:30 pm during the Middleburg Classic. The celebration will include a champagne reception (sign me up!) and will feature great classes such as a $10,000 Future Hunter Stake, the Middleburg Hunter Classic, and the Adult Amateur Hunter Series. Kentucky Equine Research is giving away a GPA helmet! One winner will win a GPA helmet of their choice, and all you must do to enter is subscribe to KER’s online newsletter. You can select which newsletters you’d like to receive. The winner will be contacted via email on August 28. [Subscribe Here]

The latest edition of the USEA Podcast features Karen O’Connor’s thoughts on Great Meadow. The WEG prep event was quite well-received by both riders and spectators, and Karen weighs in to share her thoughts on how the event went. Definitely worth a listen! [USEA Podcast]

Laid-back cross country? That’s an interesting concept! Luckily, there is such a thing if you have Hunter Paces available in your area. I’ve always loved Hunter Paces for the opportunity they give to get a cross country school in under no pressure. The Ocala Star Banner did a quick write-up on these lovely events. If you’ve never tried a Hunter Pace, you’re seriously missing out. Take my word for it. [Laid Back Hunter Paces]

Thursday Video:

There’s a horse show coming to Central Park for the first time. How exciting is that? Now, can we just get a cross country course built in the Park? I’d buy tickets to watch that for sure.
