Jon Holling and Leslie Law sure know how to celebrate Halloween!

As I write to you, wearing my pink and purple tutu and blue wig, I start getting the reminiscent feeling that I have every year around Halloween. I almost never get to celebrate this holiday of ridiculous costumes and sugary overindulgence due to the fact that it falls on the same weekend as the Virginia Horse Trials (right near my hometown!), but this year I was lucky enough to participate. However, Halloween always marks the end of the season for me, and it makes me feel sad because there are several months of dreary trot sets and dressage ahead of me, but also excited, because I get to plan my spring season! I’m dreaming of sunny and 70, sandy lands, and TakoSushi….anybody???

Samantha’s got all the scoop this week on the Eventing Radio Show, as Joe Meyer joins the show to chat about the recent Pau CCI4* and Michael Pollard gives a quick update on Hanni, who has re-routed to the Galway Downs CCI3* after a minor setback at the in-barns of Fair Hill. Also, who knows exactly what went down at Clayton Fredericks’ “Welcome to Ocala” party?? Tune in to find out! [Eventing Radio Show]

The USEA is proud to announce five new inductees to the Eventing Hall of Fame. You won’t be surprised to see names such as Amy Tryon, Giltedge, Lana Wright, Roger Haller and The Grey Goose added to the names of the most influential and amazing athletes in our sport. The USEA only announces new members every three years, so this is very exciting! Check out also the other hall of famers. [USEA Names New Inductees] [USEA Hall of Fame]

Did you know Mary King has her own clothing line? Neither did I. But here’s a lovely interview with her in “Woman & Home”, which I suppose is the British equivalent of our Vanity Fair. Mary talks about how she rose from a completely non-horsey family to the top of the sport, as well as her daughter Emily’s ambition to compete in Rio along with her mother! [Mary King, World #1]

Jonathan Paget is fulfilling several of MY dreams at once, and now he’s off to train with Ze Terminator himself. Jock hopes that in addition to his past year of education with Andrew Nicholson and Mark Todd, an apprenticeship with Michael Jung will add something special to his toolbox. “The guy’s obviously doing something right,” Paget said, in the biggest understatement of the century. Did you hear? It’s Royal Week! Indoor Eventing for 2012! Why yes, yes I am linking to my own article from yesterday. [Royal Winter Fair]

Remember the Breeder’s Bridge to High Performance contest with John and Beezie Madden? Well, maybe you don’t but it was basically a contest where the Maddens selected the best possible Jumper prospects from a huge pool of young horses, and began to train them. Callie Schott, who works for the Maddens, talks about the development and training of one such young superstar, and how the journey has gone for the short time that she has been working with the horse. Training a super athletic horse is often times a lot more difficult at the lower levels than the less talented types. [Bidding Farewell to Welcome BF]

One of the most successful National Hunt Horses of all time, Kauto Star, has been officially retired. Kauto Star won 16 grade 1 races, running for an astonishing 9 years straight. “Kauto looks and feels as vibrant as ever… But I suspect Kauto will be like that when he is 20-years-old. And, deep down, we know he has done enough. Kauto is signing off in full health,” says trainer Paul Nicholls. [Kauto Star Retires]
