USEF Announces US Eventing Team Veterinary Panel

To go along with the new coaching regime, the USEF has announced a brand new Veterinary Panel and list of Associate Veterinarians for the US Eventing Team. After more than a decade of dedicated service from Dr. Brendan Furlong, Dr. Catherine Kohn, and Dr. PJ McMahon, the USEF will be welcoming three new veterinarians as well as five associate veterinarians. These vets will be intimately involved in the evaluation, selection and success of our Eventing team both at home and during championships in the next few years.

The new treating veterinarian is Dr. Mark Revenaugh of Portland Oregon. Dr. Revenaugh is a 1991 graduate of University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine and a specialist in diagnosing and treating lameness and injury in sport horses. He has performed in multiple disciplines as Team Veterinarian or Assistant Team Veterinarian, and is FEI accredited in Show Jumping, Eventing, Dressage, and Driving.  He also leads Northwest Equine Performance in Oregon, but for this purpose will oversee the US Eventing program, keep in touch with the individual riders’ vets, and travel to some team competitions.

Dr. Duncan Peters will be serving as the Evaluating Veterinarian. Dr. Peters is based out of Williamston Michigan, and also serves as the director of the Clinical Equine Sports Medicine Program and associate professor of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He also helped found the Sport Horse Division at the Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Kentucky. Dr. Peters will assist the panel in evaluating the soundness and health of team horses.

The final vet on the panel will be Dr. Susan Johns of Middleburg, Virginia, who will be acting as the Associate Treating Veterinarian for the US Team. Dr. Johns has practiced at Virginia Equine Imaging since the spring of 2002, specializing in the treatment and maintenance of sport horses. Dr. Johns has been part of the US Team in previous years, serving as the Team Veterinarian during the 2008 and 2010 FEI Singles Driving World Championships. Her role as Associate Treating Veterinarian will involve a lot of travel with the team on trips around the world.

The Associate Veterinarians named are: Dr. Kent Allen (Virginia), FEI Advisory Veterinarian, Dr. Rachel Gottlieb (Oregon), Dr. Marc Koene (Germany), Dr. Bruce Kuesis (California), Dr. Tim Randle (UK).
