Friday News:

Icabad Crane has made waves in the event world as a top racehorse turned aspiring event horse. The Horse poses a thought-provoking question: why aren’t there more horses like Icabad? There are more than a few top racehorses who are geldings or who may not be as successful as others in the breeding shed. Just imagine turning some of these horses into star athletes in other sports – ah, the potential! [Why Not More Icabad Cranes?]

Queen Elizabeth II made an appearance at the Royal Windsor Horse Show’s opening day this week. I can’t say I wouldn’t get massive stage fright knowing the Queen herself was watching me ride, so I give major props to those riders. [Queen Attends Royal Windsor]

A horse and buggy went for a run on the loose in Wisconsin this week. Six cars were damaged while the horse went for a spin with its freight in town, but no injuries (including the horse) were reported thankfully. [Horse and Buggy Loose in Wisconsin]

It’s officially allergy season! Not only are we reaching for the Kleenex, but our horses may be suffering from allergies as well. Fortunately for us, The Horse has a handy infographic complete with various equine allergens as well as how to identify symptoms. I’m sure your horse will greatly appreciate your education on his or her allergies! [Equine Allergies]

The Preakness Stakes will go off tomorrow afternoon. Derby champion California Chrome will seek to capture the second leg of the elusive Triple Crown, and his connections put to rest today rumors that the horse was under the weather. The three-year-old colt did have a slight cough this week, but they are adamant that there is nothing concerning happening and nothing that has hindered any part of his training.
