Thursday Reader from Devoucoux

False!

Happy Thursday Eventing Nation! I have arrived at The Fork to contend in the Advanced division this weekend with my monster horse, and I’m super excited. The Fork is always one of the most promising events of the season, as the weather is usually beautiful at this point in the year, and the horses are getting primed for Rolex, so we here at EN have the chinchillas on super-stalking duty for a select few. Jenni and Samantha will both be here covering everything and bringing you top notch news straight from North Carolina. The forecast says it is supposed to rain today, so I bought a tarp at the Dollar General, and I’m hoping I finish Dressage before it lets loose….fingers crossed!

News from Around the Globe:

The Eventing Radio Show takes on an incredibly annoying complex topic this week….demystifying the new FEI rules! Bless their hearts for even attacking this task, but Doug Payne and Samantha Clark try to figure out what in the world all these new FEI rules mean to all of us, and I think they did a pretty good job of explaining. So if you’re still confuzzled (join the club), listen in! [Eventing Radio Show]

All those awesome USEA videos from events across the US? Made by the master of media, Josh Walker. Josh and his wife Emily Daily are excited to announce that they are taking the leap into making their own multimedia production and PR company, Bright Horse Communications. We here are EN love Josh and Emily, and are super excited to see what kind of cool stuff they can create together. Their company will offer services in video production, web and print design, photography, and communications management, such as press releases, e-newsletters, and social media management. While Aintree’s Grand National steeplechase course remains the most difficult course ever, the powers that be are trying to make it more horse friendly with new designs. Aintree now has 12 fences built from plastic, so that they are kinder should the horse make a mistake. The heights and widths are unchanged, but in terms of crashes and horrible wrecks, they think that the new plastic designs should help minimize damage to both horse and jockey. [New Aintree Jumps]

SmartPak Product of the Day? My favorite find is the Barnsby Grip Pad, specifically for Dressage since it looks nice if you don’t have a breastplate. My horse is freakishly up hill, and no matter how you strap, glue, or duct tape things to him, they always slide backwards. I’ve had no-slip half pads, and I’ve all but poured sticky spray on him to get my pads to stay still, but the Barnsby Grip Pad has conquered this problem finally. I use it in the Dressage, and my saddle stays stuck, and I feel like I could even forget to super tighten my girth and I would be OK. [Barnsby Grip Pad]
