War Horse Wednesday News and Notes from Horse Quencher

Gin N’ Juice and Veronica

I love the holidays. And yes, I am aware December is a long way off. But, as I sat in the movie theater, in my full Harry Potter attire, anxiously awaiting the start of the movie, I found myself dreaming of the holidays. This is probably due to the fact that the holiday movie trailers are now out. One trailer that struck my eye was War Horse. This *WWI set movie looks to be quiet entertaining and fulfilling. Nothing better than a feel good movie that involves a horse. [War Horse]
Speaking of holidays, there is a special holiday every day of the year! This August brings you romance month. But the holidays in romance month aren’t all romantic. Today, August 10, is lazy day. Tomorrow? Presidential joke day. Everyone can thank Ali for all this information. This is what she does in her free time. Her favorite August holiday? The 13- Blame someone else day. [August Holidays]
Now for some information that will hopefully be more worthwhile than anything above…
With the AEC’s not far away, the excitement is building. Kim Parisan shares with the eventing community her road to the AEC. While that road hasn’t exactly been the route she was planning on, she is excited to be going. A suspensory injury to her horse and a back injury to herself have left her holding the honorable groom position. Kim’s daughter, Madeline will be carrying on in the stirrups to hopefully have a successful competition. [Road to the AEC]
Speaking of championships, five countries have applied to stage the European Eventing Championships in 2015. Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, The Netherlands and Poland will all battle it out for the host position. However, this time around, there will be a new bidding process. The objective of the new bid process is “to raise the profile of the FEI European Championships by selecting candidates able to deliver sporting events at the highest quality.” The bidding process started in March of this year and will continue till April 2012. [Get your championship bid in]
Get to know Burghley bound, Gin & Juice just a little bit better. Find out about her love for living out, cross country, and bucking Hawley off. Even better? This little tom boy knows how to get dirty and then clean up with the best of them. Don’t forget to purchase your hat in support of this fantastic, little mare and her awesome rider. [How well do you know Gin &
The Adventures of Meg Kep just never get old. In her latest blog entry, Meg talks about her journey to England. Thank goodness Meg has had good entertainment on her journey. Check out her blog to learn about her adventures. Everything from learning about the lorry driver’s personal life, to keeping Tate under control. I would love to be there when Meg shares with Sinead why Tate has been shot by a sniper. Now you should really check out her blog. P.S. Meg, I loved decoding your Mac language. [Meg Kep ladies and gents]
GB’s Gemma Tattersall plans to swim the length of the English Channel. Gemma will be swimming 1,416 lengths of a 25 meter pool to raise money for the spinal charity, Aspire. She must complete the distance between September 12 and December 12. Gemma decided to do this after a friend of hers was injured in April of this year. You can go through Horse and Hound to help support Gemma’s swim. [Aspire]
Get a look inside the 2011 Pan American Games. American’s are excited for the Pan Am’s. Not only is it a chance to qualify for the Olympics, it gives the US a chance to send a younger team to gain experience. As far as the safety concern with Mexico (drug cartel, yikes!), Brian Sabo says that there are always sharks in the water. Extra safety precautions will be taken. Mexico is aware of the increased amount of eyes on them at this time and will be taking every step possible to create a safe games for everyone involved. [Pan Ams]
Do you know your horses nutrient requirements? Smartpak can help you out. [Get help now!]
Did you know that the top 3 riders in the CIC*** at Rebecca Farm were World Equestrian Brand riders? Pretty cool, huh? Check out World Equestrian Brand’s Facebook page for some neat info. [Facebook]
Now this is some great driving:
Have a fantastic Wednesday, EN. Hopefully you can find a few moments to celebrate this lazy holiday. Go Eventing.

Toytown’s Monday News and Notes from ECOGOLD

Samantha Clark photo
What a great weekend of eventing! With two big events and many others happening, there was lots of excitement. Buck Davidson and Andrew Nicholson had big wins separated by a big pond giving spectators a lot of good riding to watch.
In addition to horse trials, rumor has it there were quiet a few Pony Club ratings around the country. Congratulations to all that passed! Even more exciting is Eventing Nation’s own, Ali. Ali passed her ‘B’ rating. As she described in her text- she is a ‘B’ for badbutt (they may have been a slightly different word than she used). So congratulations to Ali- you are a ‘B’ and you now shower on a regular basis!
In case you missed the scores, here they are:
Gatcombe: [Scores
Millbrook HT: [Scores]

Snowfields HT: [Scores]

Now for some news and notes…
Horse Junkies has done a nice article on showing with kids. Super mom, Marisa Goode, shares her experience with working full time, being a full time mom, and showing as well. Excellent planning is key along with an amazing husband. [How to show with kids]
Lauren Sprieser was out and about at Morven Park. Unfortunately after one horse leaving, and a bump on the nose to her Grand Prix ride, Lauren was down two horses. However, she took the downs and turned them around by taking her horse Fender out as a non-compete. In her blog, Lauren discusses getting help from dressage trainer, Pati Pierucci. Pati served as fantastic eyes on the ground to help Lauren with the positioning of Fender’s neck. I have been luck enough to have a few lessons with Pati and she certainly is fantastic! [Lauren’s blog]
With a big win at Gatcombe, Andrew Nicholson is showing the world just want he plans to do in London next year. Nicholson talks about Nero’s speed and how it seems as if Nero knows the jumps before he even sees them. The British team is still uncertain for London but there are a lot of riders that are looking on top form. [Nicholson takes the win]
Gatcombe HT marked the end of an era for Zara Philips and Toytown. In a very emotional ceremony, Zara officially retired “Noddy” from competition. Zara fought hard during the ceremony to hold back the tear but eventually she gave in. Zara says she doesn’t know that she will ever have a horse of his level but hopes that she will have one that could go there. Toytown was the horse of a lifetime for Zara. He will be well missed from British Eventing. [Toytown retires]
Well Meg Kep is off again with Tate. After riding in a lorry with 1,000,000 miles on it, Meg and Tate arrived safely into a stall at JFK where they had to wait to be transported on to the plan and then over seas. Poor Meg, I bet Sinead put that phone of yours in the water on purpose. Hopefully you are going to get a phone in the UK! Good luck to Sinead, Meg and Tate. [The Adventures of Meg Kep]
Doug Payne gives a Millbrook wrap up. After a week at HITS, Doug and Running Order had a great clear round with only one time penalty. Doug also talks about his decision to pass on the grant to Blenheim. He feels as though Ro and himself are too green to go to England and have a chance of winning. If he goes, to Blenheim, he will have a short fall. If he stays in the US, he will be able to have several more runs and be better prepared for Rolex Kentucky in the spring. I give Doug a lot of credit as I am sure that was not an easy decision. [DPEquestrian]
Check out Buck and Reggie through the water:
Hope where ever you are you have a great Monday. Stay locked in for great coverage throughout the week. Go Eventing.

Saturday Morning Links

Good morning all! It’s an exciting day on the eventing scene. With some exciting rides happening at Gatcombe in England and cross country happening at Millbrook, there is bound to be some great news to follow throughout the day. It’s exciting to see Neville back in action at the advanced level with Boyd. After such a rough summer it’s time for somethings to go right! So sit back EN readers, relax and grad a cold drink- it’s bound to be a great weekend here on EN!

More Gatcombe XC

Hope where ever you find yourself, the day is treating you well. Go Eventing.

Woodburn’s Thursday News and Notes from Devoucoux

It just hasn’t been True Prospect Farm’s year. This week one of the finest animals in eventing and the world was lost. No farm (or eventing family) should ever have to go through what has been experiences at TPF this year. I would like to send my condolences to everyone involved with Woodburn. I will forever enjoy walking through Emily Beshear’s barn and seeing pictures of them on the walls. Even when you don’t personally know a horse but you watch their career unfold, you feel bonded to them. May Woodburn rest in peace and always be remembered for the wonderful animal he was.
It is a busy weekend on the eventing scene. Many riders have headed off to Millbrook. There was Facebook evidence of some trailer break downs in route but hopefully most riders and grooms are making the journey without trouble. With seven events happening this weekend, there is bound to be some great coverage on EN. For those of you not at an event, stay locked in for all the latest action.
With Millbrook beginning on Thursday, here is your chance to eye up the competition…
Millbrook H.T. [Live Scores] [Ride Times]

The rest of the scores will be posted right here on EN as they become available.
On wards and upwards:
John shared some cool news yesterday by alerting us all to Nina Ligon’s new purchase. The Chronicle has put out a nice interview with Nina. Nina is an extremely nice girl and you can see that in her interview. She gives the most credit to her horses who she claims make her a better rider by teaching her everyday. She has mentions the importance to having a normal college experience as well as visiting her non-horse friends on weekends to help her unwind. With the Olympics only a year away, Nina is pressing on harder than ever to achieve her goal. [Nina Ligon]
Burghley has received 150 entries this year. Those not qualified at the time of closing, were not accepted. All others will be wait listed. With a strong American contingent, Burghley will be exciting to watch. I know most of us will be glued to the free live streaming! [Ballot]
On the Line discusses using pictures or videos of people not wearing helmets as a “teachable” moment. They also discuss that it is important to remember wearing a helmet is a choice. On the Line is in full support of helmet wearing, so when they recently posted pictures of Rodrigo Pessoa not wearing a helmet, it did not mean they were in support of it. I have to say I agree with On the Line, if you see a picture of someone not wearing a helmet, don’t sit on your computer bashing whoever committed the crime. Get up and use it as an example to teach someone about good helmet use. [On the Line]
As I always say, I love Hamish. His blogs always give me something to laugh about and his writing style is to die for. In his most recent blog, Hamish updates us on Wilton H.T., being a helpless man, striking up good deals, and warm Foster’s. If you find yourself in a less than stellar mood, this blog is sure to make you smile. [The English Adventure]
Boyd and Silva wish Lillian Heard the best of luck in Ireland. Lillian has been with Boyd and Silva for three years. This is without a doubt going to be one of the most exciting steps in her life. And from what I hear, the going away party was a darn good time. [Good-bye Lillian]
Because we love blogs: HSB Eventing
British Eventing has put out a safe cross country riding DVD. The video highlights what to do, what not to do and some other helpful hints.  [Safe riding]
Nobody likes to hear of horse abuse. And recently the reining world has been suffering from excessive abuse in the warm up area. The FEI will at first give a verbal warning. Then, they will disqualify you. I personally think there should be no second chance. You abuse, you are gone. As reported in this case, there was excessive use of hands and the horse was also run into a wall. If someone is willing to do that once, they will do it again. [Reining Abuse]
And now for some Gatcombe love…

That’s all for now EN, we’ll see you soon.

Area V and III’s Monday News and Notes from ECOGOLD

funny pictures - Need... More... COFFEE!

Well folks, it’s Monday again. Sip the coffee, Mountain Dew, 5-hour Energy or whatever it takes to get you through the day.  Hopefully all the young riders competitors are home or headed that way shortly. I want to send a HUGE congratulations to Area V. Although Area IV is my home team, I grew up competing in Area V and know that you will be hard pressed to find a nicer group of people. NAJYRC is a tough competition and to pull off a gold medal is no small feat.  Well done!

I want to remind everyone that today is the final day to enter the EN blogger contest. John is so excited about this contest; I think he is hoping to meet his future Mrs.  this way. Go on; get your sample writings in! And just as a side note to Annie- I am NO stalker. I would never spend a Saturday night stalking Facebook. Never, ever.

Now for some news…

In case you missed it in the intro, Area V won gold in the CH-J* at NAJYRC. Area V lead the competition from start to finish. Team member, Alyssa Phillips, took the individual gold on her mount, Sundance Bay. In the CHY-** Area III came home with the victory. Devon Brown was the individual gold medalist with Jacob Fletcher bringing the sliver back to Texas. [GOLD]

Sunday will mark the official end of a competitive career for Toytown. Zara Philips incredible mount, also known as “Noddy,” will be officially retired from competition at 1:45pm at the Gatcombe Horse Trials. Zara and Noddy had an incredible career together. They are probably best known for their World Champion title in Aachen. Noddy has been the horse of a lifetime for Zara and will enjoy his retirement by hacking out and grazing at the lovely Gatcombe Park. [Toytown]

US rider, Kent Farrington, won the King’s Cup in England this past weekend. He topped the field with just a .5 second lead. This was Farrington’s first trip to the West Sussex venue and I would say he left them with something to think about. [Farrington Wins]

Best of Blogs: NAJYRC Groom’s Diary

Michael Whitaker will be absent from the final days of competition at Royal International. An incident occurred in Whitaker’s hotel room on Friday night. He was released from the local police station on Saturday with no charge. Whitaker left the competition early to go home and prepare for Dublin. Because I am apparently a stalker, I will stalk because my curiosity wants to know what happened! [Whitaker statement]

If you are looking for a way to spend more money, just join the virtual scene! However, be careful- things can go down hill. Legal trouble is never good trouble! I don’t honestly really get this whole virtual thing and it seems kind of weird. But I thought I would share it with you. Thanks RAP for the link. [Make your own judgement]

In the US this weekend, Millbrook Horse Trials is taking place. Millbrook usually plays host to many top riders. Lets hope for good weather for all involved! The HT will benefit the Duchess Land Conservancy (a non-profit). For all in the area of Millbrook this weekend, I highly suggest attending. You are bound to see some good riding. [Millbrook HT]

Across the pond, the British Eventing Championships are taking place. Many top British and foriegn riders will be on hand to compete for their chance at the blue. Gatcombe is an incredible event with extremly challenging courses. It will be a battle till the end. I believe they also run XC in reverse order of standing (if I remember correctly). In addition to the championship, there is another Express Eventing competition. Express Eventing is getting bigger in the UK. Do we think it will take off here? [Gatcombe]

Get to know Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum a little better…
Enjoy your Monday in the finest of fashions. Don’t forget to send your blog entries! Go Eventing.

Zara Philips Sunday Links

Another wedding? Of course I am excited! Saturday marked day one of married life for Zara Philips and her man. While I wasn’t as excited about this wedding as I was “the” royal wedding, I was still looking forward to it. Well, looking forward to stalking the pictures from it. It seems a large part of the UK evening community was in attendance. I am sort of surprised John wasn’t there.

Enough wedding. Let’s get our linxx on…

Show jumping for the eventing at NAJYRC begins at 1pm with the CCI* followed by CCI**. Stay tuned for results.

Eventing Nation would like to send our condolences to Silva and Boyd Martin. Just 18 days after Boyd lost his father, Silva’s father, Christoph Stigler, passed away. The past few months have been fill with horrible tragedy for the Martins. All of our thoughts are with them as they mourn the loss of Silva’s father.

Now for a totally random yet funny video…

Young Rider Thursday News and Notes from Devoucoux

Well folks its’ been an exciting day here on EN! With the Pan Am short list officially released, everyone can start the fun of picking teams and favorites. With Richland Park only a few short weeks away, riders will be pushing hard to tune up their steads. All the short list riders will be in a special division at Richland. And as always, EN will be your quickest news source.
Young Riders is now officially started with the horses trotting up on Wednesday (which all horses passed). Thursday brings the first day of Dressage (CCI**) for these riders. Best of luck to all competitors as they tackle the championships in Kentucky! [Entries, Scores, Times, etc.]
There are only two horse trials this weekend in addition to NAJYRC. Stay tuned for scoring and updates.
Back to the Pan Am list. Congrats to Emily Beshear and Quincy! Nobody works harder and deserves this more in my opinion. Best of luck to Emily and all the others on the list as the prepare to push forward. [Emily B.]
The USA Equestrian Trust has awarded $200,000 in grants this year. The majority of the grants went to the USEF. But others went to research, land conservation, Young Riders, and several other places. Grants are a great way to help people and I love seeing them go to so many different organizations to be given out. [Grants]
Speaking of grants. New grants have been made available for Para-Equestrians aiming for London. $37,000 will go towards the support of fifteen riders. These grants will be distributed by the FEI and only available to riders who have not won medals at the Olympics, WEG and World Championship since 2004. [Para-Equestrian Grants]
Have you ever wondered about the history of a British riding pony? As we all know, good ponies can certainly shape a young child’s future. Tom Best, has created a book the has good information about breeding the types of ponies that parents love for their kids to have. Breeding is not the only thing in this book. There are social parts too. Maybe we need to get some British riding ponies over here! [The British Riding Pony]
In random news, John is still reeling from his excitement of the London Test Event. Mainly, he was “curious” if I noticed his new Facebook profile picture. And even more so, could I name the awesomely cool girl standing in the photo with him. Hint: Top placed American at Rolex. John was also concerned about the shirt he was wearing and what I thought of that. Come on ladies, someone please snag up this fine catch.
Eventing Nation would like to send it’s condolences to Dirk Schrade. Dirk lost his lovely mount, Gadget de la Cere last week due to severe colic. Dirk and Gadget de la Cere competing together at the upper levels for many years. My this wonderful animal rest in peace. [Gadget de la Cere]

Congratulations to Kelly Pugh and Copycat Chloe. This fine pair completed their first Miniprix together. Boy can that mare jump! Thank you to Kelly’s Facebook for the picture.

Because we love all things Olympics, I have decided to add Olympic videos to this lovely post. Not one, but two. London is a year away. While that seems far, it definately is not! Get ready world- the Brits are taking charge! [Tie-ins to the games]

And because everyone needs a little rap in their life

Thanks for making Eventing Nation part of your day. Go Eventing.

Busy Wednesday News and Notes from Horse Quencher

Wiki Commons, submitted by Chris Gehlen

I love Wednesdays. The middle of the week brings the joy of the upcoming weekend. Make it to the end of Wednesday and you can start to taste the fun of the weekend. Honestly though, the heat here at the EN headquarters is starting to get a bit ridiculous. Although it is summer, I am not finding it very appealing to do anything outdoors. Once the riding is done, inside I go. A few nights ago, a good friend of mine had a great idea. Indoor rock climbing. It’s like the adventure of the outdoors combined with the glory of air conditioning. So, if you are looking for a good time, head to a local rock wall. I’m just waiting for my chance to get John to the top of a wall and leave him there. In time.
It’s a busy Wednesday here on Eventing Nation. Hold on tight because there are some really cool things coming up!
Rumor has it there will be some exciting High Performance news in the near future. With the Pan American Games coming up in October, there is bound to be lots of news coming out of the USEF headquarters. Stay tuned to EN for all the latest updates. [Pan Am applicants]
Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Before we roll to the Pan Ams, we needn’t forget Burghley! The list is growing rapidly with a lot of exciting riders to watch. As mentioned before, there will be three Canadian riders (Hawley, Kyle, Jessie) and seven American riders (Will F., Will C., Buck, Colleen, Julian, Sharon, Boyd). While the list is long and exciting, it is bound to change. Make sure you keep checking to see if your favorites are still on the list. [Burghley Entries]
Last Wednesday in July only mean one thing! The start of the NAJYRC trot-ups for the eventers. With trot ups being held today, the dressage will take place Thursday and Friday. There will be coverage coming your way all week. Be sure to wish all the Young Riders good luck as the head into one of the biggest competitions they have ever done.
Speaking of Young Riders, area VI is traveling in fine fashion to the competition. At 2am on Saturday, the team began their journey by road tripping to LAX. They were met by their flight crew at 3:45am to begin the loading process for their 6am flight. It was a tight squeeze to fit all the horses and equipment but they did it. By now they are all safely in Kentucky preparing for the trot-up. [Area VI flight]
There is a new EN contest coming up. Get excited. There is potential for serious laughter, good reads, and a chance to really show up John. Of course, the Chinchillas will be on hand for any potential judging and Annie will be there to break up the crowds when the winner is chosen. Stay tuned.
Who loves Harry Potter? Who loves FLAIR? Who wouldn’t want to have both in their lives together? Recently, an eventer won the latest FLAIR contest. Check out the awesome picture of what they won. [The ever trusty, Facebook]
Becky Holder and Courageous Comet love KESMARC. KESMARC is a wonderful rehab facility in Ocala, FL. For several months, this facility played host to the ever famous, Comet. After an injured check ligament, Comet was sent to KESMARC for his rehab. The facility was able to provide Comet with the most top notch care and service. Comet, who is never shy to let you know what he wants, was treated to lots of walking, the aqua tread, laser treatment, and tons of spoiling. After 10 weeks, Comet returned home to GA to continue his rehab. KESMARC is a world class facility that caters to many top riders. If you ever need a rehab facility, I highly recommend KESMARC. [Comet visits KESMARC]
Just in case you missed this awesome video the first time around. [Hawley and Gin & Juice]
Holly Hudspeth discussed how important it is to be fit. After being out of the tack for quiet a few months, Holly headed to a local starter trial for some practice. Feeling a little winded and loose in the tack, Holly says she was glad to be jumping three feet. Rider fitness is really important. It can make the difference between a “just get it done” ride and a really professional ride. Not to mention, the fitter you are, the better you can control that beast! [Holly Hudspeth]
Best she is awesome…
Lock your seat belt and stay tuned for a good rest of the week here at EN. Go Eventing.

Monday News and Notes from ECOGOLD

Funny Pictures - Cat Gifs

Well it’s that time of the week again! Every body has to go back to reality. Whether that is doing laundry from your event, or returning to the office, I hope Monday finds you happy and eager to get through the weekend. Because in five days, the weekend will be here! Rumor has it John went out on a date with someone from equestriansingles.com so I am sure he is sad to be leaving the weekend behind.
Where ever you are for this fine, fine Monday, I hope you are staying cool and staying real. Drink your water people, and help your friends stay cool by hosing them down when necessary (or not necessary).

In case this is your first time ever looking at Eventing Nation- there was a really huge event in the US of A this past weekend. Rebecca Farms sported fantastic weather which made for some fantastic eventing. Hawley Bennett and her trusty girl, Gin & Juice won the CIC***. Congratulations to Hawley! Samantha provided us with great coverage all weekend. Please be sure to check out her blog for more details. The USEA also has some great photo albums from the weekend so check those out too. [Samantha Clark]  [CIC*** Photos]  [CIC** Photos]
Doug Payne has been busy as usual. He had a successful weekend at Stuart HT. Yay for Socks holding the counter canter and scoring a 28! After Stuart, not a minute was to be wasted as Doug was off to Stone Gate Farm for eventing camp. Three days of teaching and Doug was back in action in New Jersey. Cutest part of all of this? The rescued baby raccoon. Who knew Doug was such a softy? [Doug Payne, raccoon lover]

Show Jumpers have now gone eventing in the new “Parcours de Chasse.” The class has a variety of fences (17 obstacles to be exact) including an awfully steep bank down. There are options and lots of twists and turns. Every rail down will give you added time. Twelve riders and thirteen horses participated with the American’s taking the top three spots. There are lots of videos too, so be sure to check out the link! [Parcours de Chasse]
Hunter Oaks got their fair share of rain this weekend. Sounds like the show jumping turned out not so well. Thank you Erin for the image.

There is a new cross country course open for schooling in New Jersey. High Point Equestrian Center has designed the course to cater to green horses. The jumps range from one foot to three feet and there are courses for Starter, Beginner Novice and Novice horses and riders. [NJ Cross Country Schooling]
Former US team rider, Lauren O’Brien talks about stepping back from the upper levels of competition. Lauren now focuses her energy on coaching the next generation. Her and her husband, David, now coach the area II Young Rider’s team. Lauren also discusses riding around Rolex, 5 months pregnant and how she would do it again. Lauren also shares that is is important to enjoy the moments we have with our horses and not get too caught up in the competitive  always needing to be better, side. [12 step program? Nah]

The Hendra death total has now reached 14. The Queensland total is now at 10 with 4 other deaths in New South Wales. Fifty-seven people are being tested for the virus with the number of people in the potentially exposed, Chinchilla, yet to be determined. The virus is not highly contagious but horse owners are advised to take all precautions. [Hendra Virus]

Friday News and Notes from FLAIR

Just something beautiful to ponder
Well we are coming to the end of a busy, busy week. But the weekend is no lighter. Unless you have been in Antarctica, you should know by now that Rebecca Farms is well under way. Along with Rebecca Farms, there are several more events happening around the great US of A. For those of you not off competing this weekend, I hope you are inside in the cool. And if your not, may your adventures include loads of water- drinkable and floatable.

Now for some news and notes…
The Young Rider teams have been announced. There are lots of young riders making their way to Kentucky for a fun week of action. The competition starts July 27. Putting lots of 14-21 year olds together for an entire week is always good fun. Naturally I have to wish the best of luck to Area IV. Stay tuned for more Young Riders coverage. [Named teams]
The newest episode of the Eventing Radio Show is out. This time Ian Stark and Pippa Roome are featured. Hear Ian talk about Murphy Himself and Pippa will discuss the London test event. [Episode 151]
Speaking of Radio, the Horse Radio Network has launched a new show. The Driving Radio Show is the first of its kind. The show will cover all aspects of driving from recreational driving to competitive driving. The first episode will be live and feature David Saunders (former coachman for the Royal Mews in London. [Driving Radio Show]
I always love blogs that give you a good laugh. Meg Kep never leaves you without at least a smile. I love her humor. It’s dry and witty- my favorite. Sinead Halpin Eventing had a WINNING weekend. Difficult braid jobs and keeping your head down in dressage are over rated. Apparently the jog strip shocked and there are a few Charlie Sheen fans. Keep at it Meg. Thanks for the entertainment. [The Adventures Meg Kep]
The USEF has announced the show jumping teams for CSIO Rotterdam. Beezie Madden, Laura Kraut, Lauren Hough, Christine Mcrea, and Mario Deslauriers will be representing the USA abroad. The competition takes place in the Netherlands, August 24-28. [CSIO Rotterdam]
Meet Jackson Roberts, PRO’s newest blogger. Jackson has been a part of the True Prospect team for a year and some change now. In June, Jackson purchased his newest mount who will hopefully help him move up the levels. As you get to know Jackson, you will no doubt pick up on his extreme work ethic. I mean come on, 3:30 am to do someone else’s barn before heading to work at TPF. That is someone who wants to make it to the top. I always enjoy the little time I get to spend with Jackson and next time I will be picking a nickname for him. [Jackson Roberts]
Friday makes for some exciting dressage competition in Montana. Dressage for the CIC** starts at 8:00. The CCI** begins at 9:35 and the CIC*** at 1:30. Sharon White and Rafferty’s Rules will be leading us off in the CIC*** followed by all your favorite competitors. The Advanced and Intermediate both begin at 12:00 tomorrow with both preliminary sections starting at 8:30.
Last but not least, two important shout outs. Good luck to Brittany Lunney and Cool Dancer (competing in their first CIC***) from a few anonymous friends. Rumor has it Brittany will be easy to spot in her overalls and stick dance moves. I wish I was there to witness these moves.

And best of luck to Charlotte with Merloch. They are competing in their second preliminary. Love that Furry Murry and wishing them the best of weekends!

Rebecca Farm Dressage Recap

The Event at Rebecca Farm is well underway now and the first day of dressage has come to an end. The CCI* and CIC* took place today as well as the Training and Novice divisions. The weather looks to be good in Montana as we rest up for more dressage excitement tomorrow.

There are eight Novice divisions running this weekend with some very impressive scores. Tessa Robinson and Septer Sinn put up a very impressive 19.0 in Jr. Novice section B. This put her seven points in the lead. There were many great scores from the 19.0 to a 30.5. Such fantastic scores represent the high quality of riding. As we all know, Novice divisions are the hardest to win so it will be important for these riders to remain on their dressage score.
The training level is playing host to some great competitors and East Coaster, Sharon White, is looking good in Open Training C on Ravenna with a 30.9. Suzie Elliot leads division A with Rimsky on a 28.6.
The CIC* is being held down by Karen Laidley and Snow Globe Effect. She leads the division by 3.1 points ahead of Alexa Perkiel and Apres Ski. Jolie Wentworth is leading the CCI* on a 54.8 with Bally Quinn. Tamie Smith and Fleeceworks Fernhill are following with a 56.0. EN’s, Chelan is tied for 3rd on a 56.7. All one star competitors will have a nice day of hacking and possibly a jump school before XC begins on Saturday.
Tamra Smith is having another good day leading the conformation portion of the Future Young Event Horse 3-year old section. Mary Burke is leading the 2-year old section and Darcy Barnes leads the yearling section. Stay tuned for the final scores later.
Dressage for the CIC** starts at 8:00. The CCI** begins at 9:35 and the CIC*** at 1:30. Sharon White and Rafferty’s Rules will be leading us off in the CIC*** followed by many fantastic competitors. The Advanced and Intermediate both begin at 12:00 tomorrow with both preliminary sections starting at 8:30. Be sure to stay locked in for more coverage by Samantha and the rest of the EN team.
Until next time, go eventing.

Hamish’s Thursday News and Notes from Devoucoux

By now everyone know who Hamish and Dave are. Their videos from the 2010 WEG were an instant hit. I wanted to start everyone’s day with a funny blog post from Hamish. Hamish is United Kingdom bound to grace British Eventing with his presence. No doubt the English are in for a real treat. I wish I knew Hamish personally. And even more so I wish he would blog every day so I could laugh non-stop. And even more than that, I wish he was my best friend. How is that for three wishes? So get your morning off to a good start check out the beginning of what is no doubt going to be a wild and entertaining journey. Aussie meets England with full force. [Hamish Cargill]
There are six USEA horse trials happening this weekend, Rebecca Farm starts today. Get prepared to stalk…

On a completely non horse related note, if any of you are preparing to quit your job, I have a suggestion. Do it on dry erase boards. Thirty-three of them to be exact. When this girl decided it was time to quit, she came up with the most spectacular way of doing it. I am sure at the end of her display her boss got the point. [How to quit your job]
Don’t forget, USPC Championships is underway. Congrats to Morgan Booth and Cameron Creek for such a successful day! And thank you Facebook for sharing that information. For more on what’s happening at Festival, check out this great page.
As we all know, Rebecca Farms has their lovely event this weekend. However, the Young Event Horse classes are well underway. Congratulations to Tamie Smith and Fleecework’s Cinco for their win in the four year old division. The gelding scored a 13.01 out of 15 on conformation and a 29.75 out of 35 in dressage. Big domination for the lovely Holsteiner gelding. In the five year old division, Kelly Prather and Happenstance took the win. [Young Event Horse Winners] [Photo Gallery]
Speaking of Rebecca Farms… [Daily Interlake]
Several celebrities will be putting on their racing silks come July 28 for the Glorious Godwood Festival. Well known dressage ride,r Laura Bechtolsheimer, will be participating. In addition to Laura B., top model Edie Campbell and Pink Floyd drummer’s wife, Annette Mason, will be participating along with several others. All these women are racing in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital. All celebrities have donated their time free of charge. [Race Day]
In case you have miss the Tack of the Day item, or have never checked TOTD out, go here for a great deal. But don’t forget, the great deal ends at noon.
Alexa Ehlers gives us part 2 of her Road to NAJYRC. Alexa sounds like she is having a fantastic time getting ready for NAJYRC including dressing up to attend the Harry Potter premiere. Alexa also spends time with other teammates outside of the barn. Good way to build team spirit! Hopefully the temperatures will cool off for Alexa and the rest of the young riders headed to Kentucky. [Part 2]
Purchase Tent and Party tickets for the AECs 2011. Rumor has it there will be spectacular food! [Click for a good time]
After a successful weekend at Stuart, poor Jennie B. has arrived home to a small fire. Fortunately this fire was in a closed space (utilities compartment in her truck). It appears as if a wire shorted causing the fire. The fire department was called and was able to make sure everything was OK. Thank goodness only clothes were lost. As we all know, fires are never good and I think it is time TPF be given a rest. Congrats to Jennie on a great weekend at Stuart and glad to hear everything in the truck is now safe again. [Spontaneous Combustion]
French show jumper Pierre Jonaqueres d’Oriola has passed away at the age of 91. d’Oriola won gold medals for France in the 1952 and 1964 Olympics. Our deepest sympathies go to his family and connections as they remember this wonderful man. [Remembering Pierre]
Chelsea from the USEA has done a fantastic interview with General Burton. They discuss how the horse world has changed, how the sport has changed and where he would like to see the sport go. For more of the interview go [here].

In her usual fashion, Samantha Clark has great coverage of Rebecca Farms. Samantha will be posting on her blog throughout the entire weekend including a great XC preview. I am sure there will be interviews and excitement so stay tuned. [Samantha’s Blog] and for even more… [Samantha’s Twitter]
Stay tuned for more coverage from Rebecca Farms and all other events in the US. In case you missed the schedule for Montana:

John Failed Wednesday Reader from Horse Quencher

John and his future wife

I come home from working in the heat all day only to find John has attempted to take all of the links. I know John does this on purpose. The funny things is, I am highly competitive when it comes to pretty much everything (except riding my horse). As my friends will tell you, I turn everything into a competition- who can run the furthest, eat the most, arm wrestle the best, have more friends on Facebook, look up things fastest on the internet. I don’t know what it is, but it’s in my blood (I am going to thank my father for this one). So when I saw John’s post, I immediately knew I had a task to complete. Thank goodness my dear friend read the post and decided to help (I will always cheat). Thank you to the mystery friend who refuses to have her name used. Probably because John knows where she lives.
Sticking on the John subject, he called me today to discuss official EN business. He started to tell me about his trip to London. The first thing he mentioned? He met Laura Collett’s boyfriend. Let’s just say, John was a little disappointed to find out he existed. I think John is starting to worry about his single status. Luckily the same friend mentioned above sent me a helpful website. I think this site will cure all of John’s loneliness and land him the hot babe he dreams of. Here you go John. Equestrian Singles. Let me know if you need help with your user name.

Now for the goods your probably came here for…

Holly Hudspeth is hitting up her first show since becoming a mother. Holly and her students will be at the Carolina Horse Park this weekend for the started trail. Although Holly has only ridden a few times, she thought this would be a good way to get herself back into the swing of competing. Holly’s students also had a great weekend at Loch Moy. Rumor has it Hailey was there participating has assistant trainer and did a fantastic job. Go team Hudspeth! [Holly’s Blog]

Area 5 and the entire eventing community lost a great supporter and volunteer. On July 13, Jackie High lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. On July 16 services were held to celebrate the life of Jackie. Everyone at Eventing Nation would like to send their sincere condolences to Jackie’s family and all of those she touched. [Jackie High]

With all the talk on London 2012, why not predict a few medals. USA Today has listed the Individual Eventing medal picks for 2012. I feel like the first three chosen (Michael Jung, WFP, and Andrew Nicholson) could be spot on. Maybe they had the help of the WEG to make their picks? The rest of the positions I am not so sure about. And they are for sure FOOLISH not to have Piggy French high up on that list. I put her in a top 3 placing. As we get closer, I will name my medalists. Does anyone want to share their predictions? [USA Today]

The dressage phase of the the eventing portion of USPC Championships is getting underway. I feel like that was just a really awkwardly put together sentence. But I’m leaving it. I want to wish the best of luck to all my Mountain Skyline Pony Club girls. Show em’ what ya got!

In times of desperation, extreme exhaustion, or lack of motivation, we need a pick me up. But just how desperate are you? Five Hour Energy? Sure. Mountain Dew? Of course. Red Bull? Why not. Horse semen? What the &$%^. At what I am starting to believe might be some crazy sort of festival (in New Zealand), shots of horse semen will be sold to give those who are struggling an extra kick. “Horses are pure testosterone… the idea is you knock it back and feel like a stallion yourself.” The shot will be sold with a chaser (similar to Red Bull). And don’t you worry, it will taste exactly what you have all imagined horse semen would taste like. I am thinking this might be a good EN contest in the future…[A Stiff Drink]

In case anyone wonders what the Captain does when he comes to coach America…

I love feel good stories. Suki provides just that. After burning two thirds of her body in a 2009 fire, Suki can no longer be ridden. While she is still healing, she is able to provide motivation and inspiration to others. Suki regularly attends a children’s camp for burn victims. At this camp she gives the children hope for the long recovery process. It was Suki’s pure will to live that help her survive this horrible tragedy. It is that will that she is passing on to others. Horses are fantastic sources of therapy and inspiration. Thank you Suki for sharing your will. [Suki’s story]

The Montana bound horses are safely resting in their stables. Look to EN for all your Rebecca Farm’s news coverage. Should be an exciting weekend with fantastic athletes. Let’s hope everyone in Montana has the weekend they are hoping for!

Now for a little Sharon White action:

Hope everyone has a fantastic Wednesday. If I could think of something cheesy to say right now I would. Keep cool, keep hydrated, and keep locked in to EN for all the latest news. Go eventing.

Got Bee’s Monday News and Notes from Ecogold

Just in case you are ever sitting around and trying to figure out something to do for a new and interesting challenge, check out bees. Who knew? There is an actual contest to wear bees. My question is, what do the people look like after the bees come off their skin? And please, tell me they all wear goggles. I don’t suggest trying this at home folks. However, this fall, John will be risking his life and wearing bees to raise money at local horse trails. If you see him around this summer, bat a bee his way to help him start training. [BEES]

For those of you too busy in the rest of the world, here are you past weekends scores:
There is a lot going this week with a major even happening out in Montana. Also, today there will be an exclusive interview with Alec Lochore courtesy of Samantha. Stay tuned!

As we all know Laura Collett is a rising sensation on the British stage. Horse and Country got with Laura for a quick interview. Laura says she can’t imagine a life without horses and her last vacation was in Barbados. I would imagine Laura won’t be on vacation anytime in the near future with her senior debut on the horizon. Laura’s key to success? Weekly lessons with British head coach, Yogi Breisner. [Ten minutes with Laura Collett]

Hunter Oaks Horse Trials is getting underway this weekend and up and coming young rider, Michelle Mercier will be on hand. In an interview with pantagraph.com, Michelle discusses in the article, what eventing is and the special bond it takes (with the horse of course) to compete in this sport. Michelle, a college student, balances her education with horses and often times drives three hours or longer on the weekends to train and compete. [Hunter Oaks underway]
Totilas gets passed Ravel in Aachen by only .825. Totilas appeared to be tired with several mistakes. Ravel had a flawless test and when his score was announced the crowds booed in disapproval. Many believe Ravel would not better his 2010 WEG performance but so he did, nearly beating Totilas. Peters was delighted with Ravel and completely honored with how the crowd responded to his score. Laura B. from Great Britain finished forth. [Dressage News] [Jurga Report]
Hopefully these days all of you are wearing your helmets on a daily, every ride, basis. Just in case you need a new one, Riders4helmets has one on ebay just for you! Signed by Kyle Carter, Jessica Phoenix, Rebecca Howard and several others, this helmet will bring you all sorts of good luck. The helmet is brand new with tags and comes with a black helmet cover. Go on, protect that head, and have some really great autographs on it at the same time. [ebay auction]
Mark Todd is set to start in the Express Eventing qualifier at Blenheim Palace this Sunday. Express Eventing is really taking off in the UK. Director Stephen Renouard says they are delighted to have such great depth in the athletes that are participating in these events. To make it to the finals, you must win a qualifier. There are 16 places at each qualifier with six places reserved for senior riders and six places for young riders. Both the senior and young rider winner are guaranteed a place at the final. [Express Eventing]

A chuckwagon driver from the Calgary Stampede is being forced to pay $10,000 fine because of an accident that caused the death of a horse. His wagon collided with another hitting a horse and causing the horses leg to fracture. The horse completed the race before the fracture was found. The decision was made to euthanize the horse. The collision was a driver error. The driver took full responsibility of his error. [Calgary Stampede]

Tough Mudder’s Thursday News and Notes from Devoucoux

After one of the longest days I had had in a very long time, I came home to an email that sparked my energy in a fun way. Like most eventers, I love a challenge. I love a chance to do physical activity. And if it involves fire, mud, and lots of guys and muscles, I’m really interested. Tough Mudder is a competition that spreads over far too many miles with far too many nearly impossible seeming exercises. What better way to build relationships then breaking through your frustrations in muddy pools with thousands of people you don’t know. If there is anyone out there that wants to put together a team, hit us up at EN. I just signed up John tonight. Ali will be attending as well considering her love to be dirty and not showering.
Now on to the news:
As John mentioned yesterday, the senior squad has been named for the European Championships in August. With some very familiar faces on the team, twenty-one year old, Laura Collett, should take comfort in knowing she has some well practiced noggins to look to when in need of advice. It is a real challenge to make a senior team. But for a 21 year old in Great Britain? Nearly impossible. I can’t wait to see how Laura does on her senior squad debut. Laura said she was extremely excited to be taking her junior/young rider to her first senior competition. That is the kind of partnership needed to win medals. Watch out world, Laura Collett is stepping up to the big time. [Sporting Life, Horse and Hound]
It’s getting that time. American Eventing Championship time! Who’s planning on going? This year will be no let down with hundreds of great prizes and some serious money to be won. With nearly $70,000 to be distributed among the top six in each division, how can you resist not going? The Advanced class, which is also a Gold Cup point division, will receive more Gold Cup points than any other Gold Cup division throughout the year. There are many generous sponsors who will give many generous prizes. EN favorite, FLAIR, will be on hand to supply many top place finishers with FLAIR strips.
For the first time ever, three sisters will be representing Canada (ey) at the NAJYRC. Two of the sisters, Kristin and Anneka, will be riding with sister, Mariah, grooming. Three complete teams and one individual (total of 13 competitors) will be representing Canada at NAJYRC. Best of luck to everyone at NAJYRC. It is a huge accomplishment to make it to the competition. [Sutton Sisters]
There are efforts being made to improve the riding portion of the modern pentathlon. In the modern pentathlon, riders do not compete on their own horses. Instead, they are given just fifteen minutes to get acquainted to their mount before competing at 1.20 meters. This is unlike any other equestrian discipline at the Olympics. Great Britain is making efforts to find suitable horses from top show jumping yards. The standards are high at the Olympics and this means top class horses must be made available for these riders. [Modern Pentathlon
Lauren is off to Dressage at Lexington this weekend. And as she mentions in her blog (and for those of you who have been to the Virginia Horse Center) it is a very sprawled out facility. Now, with a busy schedule, Lauren prepares for the weekend with a great purchase. Well maybe. Lauren, I suggest roller blades. There would be nothing more interesting than rolling out of control right down the MASSIVE hill and into the Wiley Arena. Please give it a try for a little excitement. [Lauren Sprieser]
And for more eventers dancing… [go here]. I think John’s favorite man, Clayton and his wife can be spotted.
Now if there is a tough mudder in any of you:
Happy Thursday everyone! Go eventing.

Pippa Funnell’s News and Notes from Pennfield

For years I have idolized Pippa Funnell. Her autobiography rests nice and worn next to my bed. Her fierce dedication to the fine details are what make her one of the most successful eventers in the world and the only winner of the Rolex Grand Slam. It is so exciting to see her back at the top of the sport with several incredibly nice horses. Her win at Barbury was well deserved and I am sure there will be many more to come. For those of you who have not watched her DVD, “The Road To The Top,” I highly recommend it. You will not regret it.
It’s a nice week on the eventing scene and lucky for the chinchillas, John has safely landed back in the US.
Now for some news and notes…
Barbury, Eventing at its best. This article discussing the issue with the water at Barbury. Was it fair to those who had already fallen that it was removed? Personally, I feel the correct action was taken in removing the water. I do think decisions like these always put a lot of pressure on the officials because either way, people will be upset. The import thing is, no one was seriously hurt.
Who is that on Wall Street?? Oh yes, it’s Totilas!
Beezie Madden has been featured on the cover Today’s CYN Woman magazine. Beezie was chosen because of hard work and ability to inspire. Beezie has more achievements than we could possibly which contributes to her being featured in this magazine.
Horseshow.com is offering $5000 and free test ride judging. This is an excellent opportunity for young riders to get out and practice before NAJYRC. Get your video cameras ready! It’s time for some practice…
The USEA has new logo gear out. This is the perfect opportunity to find a gift for a birthday or just because.
Everyone here at Eventing Nation wants to extend our deepest sympathies to all who knew and loved Greystone’s Harley. Greystone’s Harley was owned by Normandy Farms and ridden by Kadi Eykamp. Unfortunately Greystone’s Harley suffered a pulmonary hemorrhage while galloping between fences at Chattahoochee Hills (preliminary). The loss of a horse is the worse that can happen. Please know that all who were involved with this wonderful horse are in our thoughts here at EN.
Get to know Pippa even better…

I hope every one has a wonderful Tuesday. Give your horses some love and please try to stay cool! Go eventing.

Bad Directions Monday News and Notes from ECOGOLD

I confirmed something yesterday that I always thought was true. Men ALWAYS know where they are going. After a long day at Maryland HT on Saturday, Sunday came with a big welcome. Working only a half day, there was time for the river in the afternoon. So me, two other females, and two males set off for the James River in Scottsville, VA. Now, this is a popular place to go and one male claimed to know EXACTLY what he was doing. We parked a car at the start and the other at the claimed finish. Five hours later and nearing dark, we had not come to our finish car. After walking on land and water (literally) we finally found our car. Mind you it is now 9pm and mostly dark. There was a lot of frustration, some language that the chinchillas would never be allowed to hear, and a lot of bruises. But we made it. Lesson learned? Never, ever, ever let a man tell you the directions.
I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. I saw Annie at Maryland on Saturday. She had two fuzzy chinchillas in tow. Hopefully everyone that was there saw them!
In case you took a weekend trip to Fuji, here are the results from the weekend:

Please notes that John will be in the air most of today. This means everyone should bombard him with emails so he can be completely overwhelmed when he gets back. I wonder if he is going to come back from the UK with a fake accent in attempt to impress us with his new found wisdom.

Boyd Martin has written a lovely tribute to his father. The entire EN team wishes Boyd well as he mourns the loss of his wonderful father. The tribute includes a slide show of pictures that illustrate what a wonderful man Ross Martin was.

The British press act completely ridiculous when stating the Zara Philip’s soon to be husband is dressed to casual for Barbury. Mike Tindall, who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, was considered to be under dressed for the occasion. I don’t know about you, but last time I checked with the eventing fashion police, jeans and t-shirts were more than appropriate. I guess the press just needed something to write about.

Once again, British Young Riders are the object of jealously. There are two opportunities for them to receive free training. If only the US had more programs to help young riders….
Caitlin Ziegler became the youngest rider ever to win in the international ring at Spruce Meadows. Ziegler won the 1.50 meter $31,000 cup last Thursday. This is a huge win for anyone but especially huge for an up and coming young rider.
Rumor has it there was more bareback jumping at Barbury today. I hear Paul Taupner even took his shirt off. I would like to  know why John hasn’t posted about this. It might be the most important part of Barbury!
Some 2010 Barbury excitement…

And catching up with Piggy French at home…

Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday. John will be back in action tomorrow for all of you that are worried when Annie and I are left alone. Until then, go eventing.

Saturday Morning Links

Happy Saturday morning Eventing Nation! Hope everyone has a fun day planned. For those of you not planning to attend one of the million events happening this weekend in America, feel excited because you have lots to watch on EN today and tomorrow. John is still on his England tour. I can only imagine he has forgotten to mind the gap a few times and possibly been lost in translation even more times. I know he gives Annie and the Chinchillas a hard time, but what he hasn’t mentioned is how he calls home every night just to wish them a good nights rest. He sure is a softy.
Now for those of you that need to follow your favorite rider in America over the weekend:

Casey Anthony’s Not Guilty Wednesday News and Notes From Horse Quencher

There were a lot of other pictures I wanted to choose, but I went with one that didn’t “say” as much as the others.
As most of you have probably heard, Casey Anthony has been found NOT GUILTY in the murder of her daughter. This highly popular (or unpopular) case which has been displayed on pretty much every form of media now, finally has a verdict. Thirty-three days later. I know the entire world has a lot of opinions on this case. And most opinions probably are all fairly similar. I will avoid sharing my opinion. Because, while I believe she is guilty, I do not believe you can sentence someone to death without 100% accurate proof and evidence. But like I said, no opinions here. And I for sure am not going to question the system that is going to let her just walk the streets a free person (in approx. 3-4 years). I would never question the system. EVER. I wish Casey the best of luck- I am sure the free streets will be a far scarier place than prison ever was. There are a lot of people out there calling her much worse than “loser.”
Just in case you actually were in Siberia, the test event is going on. Show Jumping goes down today (hopefully not literally). Things get underway 12:30pm local and 7:30 am ET. There will be two jumping rounds (just like Olympic format) and things should wrap up around 11:40am ET (4:40 or should I say 16:40 local time). From the sounds of John’s last email, he is having a good time in London and not getting much sleep. Well done Johnny boy.
A couple of weeks ago, The FEI made an interesting suggestion to dressage riders. I don’t remember discussing this on EN, but if we have I think it is worth another mention. The suggestion recommends that helmets much be worn while schooling at a show. However, going down the center-line in proper protection will be optional. I personally find this so ridiculous. Sara was spot on to say that they would have been better off to not release any sort of statement. Go ahead, just wear your helmet sometimes.
Rebecca Farms is not far away and some great riders are heading that way to contest for the top prize. The event held around 20,000 spectators in previous years. The population in Kalispell is just under 20,000. I think that is pretty awesome. Hopefully some of you will have the chance to check out this truly amazing event and venue.
Ashley Leith blogs for PRO about attending clinics (particularly Lucinda Green clinics). I think Ashely brings up such a valid point- why aren’t more professionals attending these clinics? What a fantastic way to get some quality help from many of the top riders around the world.
Laura masters some flying changes.
Just in case any of you are headed to Barbury. Rest assured, one of the favorite attended locations from Badminton will be there. And by favorite location, I mean a bar. One of Marlborough’s award winning pubs, The Outside Chance, will be on hand to calm your nerves, or add to the excitement. I have actually been to this pub before and I am completely confident that those of you who get a drink from this “bar stand” will be in good hands.
Team GBR’s Will (I am assuming Connell) blogs from the test event. I love that he mentions the American’s celebrating the 4th in the UK. I am sure John will inform us of all interesting stories…
Ecogold has a great video of Nina riding in Ecogold Secure XC pad

And because we love blogs: Pura Vida Eventing and DPEquestrian
And keeping with my random video theme:

Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday! Stay locked into EN for the lastest news and happenings from London.

Goofy Monday News and Notes from ECOGOLD

This weekend I had the chance to coach some of the greatest kids I have ever met at show jumping rally. Weekends like this are a hugely fun. Watching these kids work their butts off and seeing them finish with huge smiles was something that I wouldn’t trade for anything. I think I shed more tears (of happiness) this weekend than I have in the past year. These kids are the future of eventing (and all other disciplines) and to get to be a part of their lives so early on is really rewarding. Next time you are out at an event, take a second to watch a youngster- they truly know what fun is about when it comes to horses. Thank you Mountain Skyline Pony Club for lots of laughter, joy, and a one seriously painful sunburn.
Now for those of you who missed this weekends events do to holiday in Scandinavia…

Tina Cook’s famous mount, Minor’s Frolic, is in an equine hospital fighting for his life. Minor’s Frolic had a infected bump under his saddle area that caused him to miss out on Badminton this year. After weeks of prolonged antibiotics, Minor’s Frolic had an adverse reaction to the antibiotics causing him to become seriously ill. We wish him the speediest of recoveries.
For the first time since 1973, the Hickstead Derby has been won by a female! Tina Fletcher and Promised Land scored the only clear round to win the 40,000 pound prize. Fletcher finished second in 2010 so victory in 2011 was easily anticipated. Fletcher shares the Promised Land is an extremely brave horse but at home he lives out and she hardly rides him. Congratulations to Fletcher and thank you for breaking the male streak!

As Annie mentioned yesterday, the benefit for Boyd and the fire victims held Saturday night went really well. On Saturday Boyd gave an emotional talk about the events that happened the night of the fire. While I am sure it was very hard for Boyd to discuss, I am sure he, and everyone else involved, have greatly appreciated the support of the entire eventing community and beyond. A picture of Boyd speaking:

Over 130,000 more people now have tickets to the London Olympics. Just under 90% of the people who applied for tickets received them. Twenty four sports were offered in this second round and 18 of those sports sold out by the evening. Some selling out in as fast as 15 minutes. A million more tickets will be offered to the British public over the next year. So all of you non Brits, good luck.

Best of Blogs: TEAM CEO

This weekend at rally, we were discussing what people who don’t have horses do in their free time and this is what we came up with… This is what you do with your free time during the winter. Thank you two Charlotte, Hunter, and Mary Margaret for this wonderful video.

Happy Monday. Go Eventing.

Fondue Friday News and Notes from FLAIR

Fox River Valley Pony Club HT is showing live scoring but we will be back with more score links as we have them.

A clinic with Boyd will be held in August to aid in the fire relief. Please go here for more details on the clinic (located in NH). Sign up! Not only will you be getting fantastic instruction, you will be helping a great cause.
Now that it is summer, it is a good time to grab a book and get some knowledge in that head! The USEA blog has come up with a list of good books to read. A little reading is good for everyone and hey- you can read about horses so even better.
In case you missed it, the USEF released the training lists. Lucky for everyone here, John has been able to provide some thoughts to help you process the lists. Hopefully a list of training sessions will be provided so everyone can stop by for a little education. I am all about getting the education right now. While I don’t really have too many opinions about the list, I am happy that the USEF has finally decided to put Jules Stiller on a list. She has been producing good results for quiet some time now and its about dang time they take notice.
Going back to the basics is one of the best things you can do. Jimmy Wofford takes riders right back to those loved basics. One of the big focuses was reins and adjusting them- especially off drops. Everyone should go back to the basics whenever possible and what better of a way to do it than with Jimmy.
Eventing begins with Dressage- listen in on Eventing Radio Show episode 147
A tornado has gone through Churchill Downs and damaged nine barns. Luckily no horses or workers were killed during Wednesday nights storm. Horses may have to be relocated and The American Red Cross has stepped in for relief.
And now for a creative attempt at horses healing… bring on the tape! It took me a little bit to figure out what was going on. But now I am fascinated. Looks like some fun healing to me!
Jennie reflects on her time in Germany. Admitting that both she and Ping are green, Jennie plans to do another three star before moving back up. While I am sure Jennie was disappointed with her result, what she learned in Germany is invaluable. She will no doubt have more tools in her box for the next time out at that level. World watch out- when Jennie B. gets all her tools out of the box, they will be unstoppable.
Because I think guilty dogs are so cute, and because I couldn’t find a guilty chinchilla…

Stay cool. Stay classy. Eat chocolate. Go Eventing.

The Chinchilla’s Wednesday News and Notes from Horse Quencher

So I have been thinking about the EN Chinchillas a lot lately. And like I have mentioned in past posts, I have a pretty curious curiosity. So I decided to do a little research. These are a few facts I have learned about chinchillas…
1. Chinchillas make sounds. Lots of them. Anything from barking to chattering.
2. Chinchillas enjoy sand baths. John, how often do you properly bathe your Chinnies?
3. Like horses, you have to build trust with your furry friend. Some enjoy to be held more than others but over time they will trust you more and hopefully become more cuddly.
4. They originated from South America. The Andes to be exact.
5. Chinchillas have 20 teeth- 4 incisors and 16 molars.
You are now 5 facts smarter about Chinchillas. There will soon be a test. Study accordingly John, you will be the first to take it and I REALLY enjoying marking things in red ink.
New for some news and notes….
The Royals have been asked to avoid the Calgary Stampede. The stampede is a famous event in Calgary. However, it is known that animals can be seriously hurt or injured during this event. It is suggested that if the Royals come, they will draw more attention to the Calgary Stampede and possibly highlight the dangers to the animals involved.
Emily Beshear deserves a big congratulations! Not only has she gotten a lovely new horse to compete, she has passed her level IV ICP certification. This is a huge accomplishment and I can’t think of anyone more deserving. For those of you who have never had the chance to ride with Emily, you are truly missing out. She is one of/if not the most effective trainer I have ever been lucky enough to work with.
Kelley Merette does a final Luhmuhlen blog
A violin, formerly owned by the savior of the Arabian horse breed, has sold at auction from $15.8 million. The proceeds from the 1721 violin will go to an earthquake and tsunami fund in Japan.
Sinead is on a roll with a good weekend over Father’s Day. Sounds like she has some exciting horses in her string and hopefully the good results will continue to roll on. Sinead will be joining 5 other US listed riders in London for the test event. At the test event they will have the chance to get a feel for the grounds, the lay of the course, and how all other aspects of the event will run. They will also be able to familiarize themselves with the city, the underground, and any other sort of transportation issues that may arise.
The latest frangible/deformable technology is invading Inavale Horse Trials.
Just in case you missed John’s post, or couldn’t scroll that far, Canada will be sending riders to Burghley this fall. These four riders will receive travel grants to help with their expenses. Hopefully Ecogold will be on hand to help them with all of their saddle pad needs!
Jessica Pye literally weathers the storm. Experiencing a tornado is terrifying. I hope that many of you will never have to be in one. There is nothing worse than huddling in your “designated shelter” and just praying that when you come out, you will be able to handle the site you see. Jessica really gives you a feel of the fear that over comes you. Of course this fear is always made time times worse knowing you have a horse in the middle of it.
The US Young Dressage horses are picked for Germany. Three combinations were chosen from the seven pairs that qualified. Congratulations to everyone who was qualified and considered. This is a huge accomplishment. Best of luck to these three pairs who will be headed to Germany to compete in August.
And now, incase you are improperaly bathing your chinchilla (JOHN)…
Happy Wednesday. Go Eventing.

Justin Bieber’s Tuesday News and Notes from Pennfield

My sister sent me a text yesterday saying she had just downloaded the Justin Bieber movie (Never Say Never). Of course, I naturally judged her. Shortly after that text I got an email containing YouTube videos of Justin. I should also share that my sister learned to play the guitar last year and she only knows how to play Bieber material- Baby, baby, baby ohhhh. My sister is 30 and married.
So, because my curiosity chases pretty much anything- I check out Bieber (man I love his last name). I then downloaded the movie. Let’s just say, that while I don’t have moves like Nat VC, I definitely pulled out all the stops for my audience in the kitchen. Fortunately for me, this is not the worst thing my dog has seen.
There is nothing like dancing around your kitchen to the sing-a-long Justin Bieber movie. Thank you Justin for giving me Bieber Fever.
Things are pretty slow and unexciting on the news front folks. From what I hear, this is very similar to John’s prom night.
So here it is- your news and notes…
A new display is now at the London Gatwick Airport featuring eight riders with their eyes set on London 2012. Great Britain team member, Tina Cook, is one of the eight featured athletes.
The Virginia Horse Center is busy, busy! This summer you will find they have a packed schedule of horse shows for all disciplines. In addition to horse shows, you will see the have the legendary O’Connor Event Clinic. So, for any of you in area II or elsewhere, join in on the fun at VHC.
Kiwi Show Jumper, Katie McVean, is no longer setting her eyes on London. With time running out, Katie felt as though she couldn’t get her new mount prepared for such an important event. She has now returned home where she will focus on her young horses and growing her business.

The Judges have been selected for the FEI Awards. The three judges come from around the world (Monaco, Venezuela, and Malawi). Nominations for the awards are open until July 31.
Valley News features an article on Denny Emerson. Denny shares his advice, parts of his life, his history, and the importance of hard work. I think the best part of this article is when Denny shares that even if he won the lottery, he would still be spending his entire life doing horses.
Now for two videos from Ecogold:

That is all EN. I hope that where ever you find yourself as you read this, you remember to let your inner groove out. Don’t worry, no one is watching. Go Eventing.
