Tuesday News & Notes from Legends Horse Feeds

Shelby and Ginger in 2005. SRD Photography.

Going through some old stuff at my parents house led me to a CD of photos from a schooling show in 2005. I was 12 at the time, and my horse, Ginger, was six. These were such a blast from the past. I loved finding these old photos of this amazing mare.

The summer calendar remains murky, but the USEA has all cancellations and announcements for you to stay up to date: [Event Cancellations and Responses to Coronavirus (COVID-19)]

In case you missed it, we announced on Friday that the 2021 FEI European Championships have been canceled. Eventing was to be held in early August at France’s Haras du Pin but the dates directly conflict with the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics. Officials deny any plans to reschedule. The organizers have already announced to the FEI their wish to become a candidate for the 2023 Championships. A French auction, “Trésors de champions,” raised €36,238 raised to support riding schools and pony clubs hard hit by the Covid crisis. Among the items bid upon was the Hermès saddle of Astier Nicolas, winner of team eventing gold at Rio in 2016. Stéphane Colas laid out 2,580 Euros for this special birthday present for his daughter. US Equestrian and the USEA are hosting a joint informational webinar session to review a safe return to competition and discuss key topics relevant to eventing. The webinar takes place Wednesday, May 13 at 3 p.m. ET. Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance when registering. Pre-webinar question submissions will close at 5 p.m. today. We love seeing equestrians giving their fellow horse owners a leg up. Tryon Riding & Hunt Club offered a grant of up to $2,500 to match community donations to help Foothills Equine Rescue Association (FERA) provide support to local horse people having a hard time paying their bills and caring for their horses in the midst of the pandemic. Upon sending out a call for support, donations from the community reached $2,500 match maximum. [FERA]

Tuesday Video from Flexible Fit Equestrian USA: Another #GOTD from Lainey Ashker

#GOTD ✅ I hope you guys have lots of poles for this zinger of a grid! For those of you who don’t feel free to take out the last half and it’ll have a similar effect! I built this grid to teach the horse how to self-balance. The cross rail vertical bounces are there to rock him back (and keep him straight). I made the two stride shorter to the oxer from the bounces because of this shortened canter you’ll now have after the bounces. Following the big effort from the oxer I’ve allowed an extra yard in distance to the bounces but this time it’s the horse’s job to self rate and “sit” [it goes without saying that the rider should be in a balance to allow for this to happen] and the bounces will help him do this without your having to pull on the reins. ***Some horses may tap the front rail of the first oxer (as Karl did in this video). I don’t really care that they hit it I care more about how they jump the second oxer as a result from touching the first. This grid looks easy but I assure you it is not. However any level of horse and rider can learn from it just begin small and work your way up from there! Enjoy guys and keep up that #quarentraining! #LÆ #eyeontheprize #poweredbyOTTB #kentuckyweek

Put those extra poles to work and test your mettle against Lainey Ashker’s latest #GOTD. You’ll need a lot of extra poles, but if you’re short on those, feel free to take out the last half.

“I built this grid to teach the horse how to self-balance. The cross rail vertical bounces are there to rock him back (and keep him straight). I made the two stride shorter to the oxer from the bounces because of this shortened canter you’ll now have after the bounces. “Some horses may tap the front rail of the first oxer (as Karl did in this video). I don’t really care that they hit it; I care more about how they jump the second oxer as a result from touching the first. This grid looks easy but I assure you it is not. 𝐀𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐬 ’𝐍𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐟, 𝐧𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞’… Or if the horse pulls off all his hoof, we need to make a replacement? ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ You may have seen on my stories recently, Boyce has managed to pull off 4 shoes in 3 weeks. Which is a new record for him! So this has left him with very little hoof to nail the shoes onto. After reviewing several options with my farrier we have gone for filler in his feet, with a mixture of Kevlar (which is the material used to make bullet proof vests), a setting agent and some super glue! He has filler on 3 feet, left fore is currently going strong (my current favourite limb 🤣). Hopefully this will keep the shoes securely on his feet and allow new hoof growth to nail into in the future🤞🤞🤞.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My farrier Tom is amazing! Especially over the last few weeks with Boyce taking shoes off left right and centre, plus with this current situation, he certainly has been a lockdown superstar for us! #teamshayler #eventerproblems #eventinglife #eventer #equestrain #equestrainlife #farrier #equestrainblogger #nohoofnohorse #farriersofinstagram #horseshoe #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #hoof

From Jane:

Hello from Arizona! I wish I was greeting you from my booth at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event Trade Fair, but alas, I am stuck at home along with the rest of the (horse) world. This would have been my seventh year exhibiting and I’m sorry to not be there with you all to celebrate my birthday. I hope you all are safe and healthy. And I appreciate the opportunity to showcase my jewelry via the virtual Trade Fair graciously hosted by Eventing Nation!

I am excited to announce a new item of exclusive equestrian jewelry: Signet Rings. These beautiful and classic rings are individually hand-cast and polished in sterling silver by my master silversmith. They’re available with your choice of two or three engraved initials, or your favorite horse head from one of my Collections. As my special KY3DE offer, these rings along with all my other rings are 15% off, now through May 10th

There are pendants, earrings, charms and rings to choose from with different horse heads.

The precision and accuracy of Dressage draw many enthusiasts and are reflected in the items representing my Dressage Collection. Attention to detail is the hallmark of Jane Heart Jewelry; people often comment to me, “It looks just like MY horse!” From pendants to stock pins to bridle tags, you’re sure to find a special piece of Dressage jewelry to wear with pride. Customize your pendant with a hand-woven horsehair necklace for a truly unique look!

One of the highlights of my 26 years in business is the creation of my Famous Racehorse Collection. In 2008 I was privileged to design horse jewelry that captures the likeness of Barbaro, the beloved Kentucky Derby winner. Following that was jewelry for Secretariat, Man o’ War, American Pharoah and Justify. Jane Heart Jewelry is proud to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these licensed designs to various equine charities, including the Secretariat Foundation, the  Permanently Disabled Jockey’s Fund (PDJF) and the Fund for Laminitis Research.

My Breed Collections include Thoroughbred, Arabian, Quarter Horse, Friesian and others, with new designs continually being added. Other Collections include jewelry depicting donkeys and mules, dog breeds, foxes and silver crosses.

Whatever your choice of Jane Heart Jewelry, please keep in mind that I am always available for custom orders. Whether you’d like to add a beaded chain or horsehair, create your own charm bracelet, or just have a question, please give me a call at 602-300-5148 to discuss. I love hearing your ideas!
