Training Level Schoolmaster

RAISING CAIN (a.k.a. Prince) – Training level Schoolmaster. Dark brown/black imported 2010 Thoroughbred gelding, 15.3 hands. This attractive horse is purpose-bred for Eventing; he is by former YEH champion Orujo de la Galerna, and out of Secret Notion, an Advanced level NZ mare who represented Mexico in the Pan American Games. Prince has taken his young Canadian rider up through the levels, with this partnership winning at Training Level and completing their first Preliminary together. He is now ready to take his next rider on the same journey. Suitable for an amateur or junior.

Rossini’s Concerto – Experienced training level gelding

Rossini’s Concerto, a 2010 bay 16.1hh OTTB gelding by Rossini out of Key Approval. Ross is an honest and safe partner perfect for an AA or junior looking for a fun horse to gain mileage on. He is a brave and careful jumper with no xc jump penalties on his record. Has successfully competed modified with a young rider and is ready to go prelim this winter. Ross has a super personality and loads, ties, clips, etc like a pro. Located in Florida.

Marco. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Classy horse for any discipline

MARCO – Bay 2010 imported Zangersheide gelding, by Catoki, out of Safira SZ. This beautiful horse is an excellent mover and a scopey talented jumper. He is very well-schooled and has a quiet temperament. Marco has been successful in the Show Hunter ring and at Novice Level Eventing, and he would excel as a Dressage horse or a Jumper. He is jumping 4 foot courses and schooling second level Dressage. He is also good on the trails, and just a really lovely horse to ride every day. He would suit a rider who wants a horse that can excel in the dressage ring, jump a big show jumping course, and go Eventing. Priced in lower-mid five figures.
We also have many other excellent horses available, from green prospects to experienced Eventers. We can also help you sell your horse. Visit www.teamwindchase.com/forsale.htm for more info. Cabriolet. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Adult Amateur’s Dream Horse!

Looking for your next show partner? Meet Cabriolet, aka Audi! This 9 year old 16.2hh OTTB mare has extensive show experience at the Novice and BN levels and is looking for her new home. Safe and trustworthy. Has schooled many training and prelim level questions with ease. Audi has a great jump that builds rider confidence, quality gaits and automatic changes. Suitable for an amateur in a program and nice enough for a professional to finish off. Would also excel in the jumper or dressage rings. She is brave to the fences and jumps in a snaffle for both xc and sj! Not mareish, kind and eager to work. Come see her before she’s snapped up! Price is negotiable, suitable home a must. Located in North Carolina.

One Plan. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

One Plan – Preliminary Winner

‘Russell’ is a beautiful 2010 grey Irish Sport Horse gelding standing at 16.3hh. Just coming back from winning the Preliminary at VAHT. Russell is a very honest horse with the talent to win. Stunning mover and amazing canter. This guy has it all. He can win the dressage and jump double clear. A hard to find quality for an event horse to have this talent in all phases. Located in Pennsylvania.

Tuesday News & Notes from Legends Horse Feeds

Lainey Ashker and Calling All Comets. Photo by Leslie Threlkeld.

It’s not Monday anymore, but this gem of Monday Motivation is too good not to shout from the rooftops. Lainey Ashker shared her thoughts on her Facebook Page yesterday reminding us all that we’re in a game of inches.

“‘What if I’m not good enough?’ is a question I often ask myself. What if I’ve spent my whole life reaching and clawing at something that somehow will elude me at the end of the day? It’s easy to feel that sense of worthlessness because if my life hasn’t achieved EVERYTHING by now then I’ve obviously achieved NOTHING. Does this ring a bell?!

“First of all, SLOW YOUR ROLL. Rome wasn’t built in a day so why should you think that your quasi-Olympic talent will place you on a team within four years? And if someone you know performs [20 meter]circles around you and achieves YOUR goals in an eighth of the time well instead of finding excuses for why this person is so privileged GO AND STUDY him/her. Ask the right questions. Hell, applaud he/she for her efforts in achieving something you still only dream of doing!

“You see, you and I we aren’t the best in our game. We don’t ooze talent nor does it come easy to us like a ‘genius.’ WE AREN’T THE OBVIOUS CHOICES FOR SUPERSTARDOM. But you know what we do have? Humility. Knowing that we may have to work, study, practice, focus harder than the other guy and WE👏🏽WILL👏🏽NOT👏🏽BE👏🏽SWAYED👏🏽. We will never take our eyes off the prize because if we did THEN THAT WOULD MEAN OUR LIFE HAS GONE TO WASTE. Remember, it’s OKAY to not be the obvious best in whatever it is that you pursue. After all it wasn’t the hare who won the race now was it?”

When the competition season slows down, that means you have plenty of time to delve into a new project. Here are five young up-and-coming horses for sale on Sport Horse Nation that you could have some fun with this winter:

Christoph. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Imported Oldenburg With Upper Level Potential

This talented young horse successfully started his career with a run at Novice at Galway Downs in April. After winning a competitive Novice division at Spokane Horse Trials in May, he moved up to Training in June and finished eighth in Open Training at Rebecca Farm. He’s ready for Prelim and has the scope, talent, and temperament for much more!

With a great jump and three solid attractive gaits, this clever boy is suited for a variety of riders: Pro, AA or YR in a program.

Christoph is a 2014 16 hand bright bay gelding with a nice temperament and no vices. He has very clean x-rays and a great vet report from 7/2018. Very sound and easy to keep. Christoph schools cross country with no issues. He is all business in a show environment, but laid back at home. He can be ridden bareback all over the farm, into the creek, and can be ridden and jumped in the snow! Located in Washington state.

Mariah GS. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Beautiful, rideable, brave mare with lovely jump and movement and clean x-rays!

Mariah GS is a beautiful 6 year old mare. She has lovely floaty movement, she is a very good jumper with beautiful form over fences, she is very brave cross country and she has a great temperament. She could honestly go in any direction! She has evented up to training level with Olympian and Pan Am medalist Jessica Phoenix and is currently in training with Jessica. She is very well schooled on the flat and is quiet with a great jumping technique. Her sire, Hope of Heaven, competed in Germany in the 1.30m and 1.35m as a 5 and 6 year old and qualified for the Bundeschampionat before coming to Canada (he is an Abdullah grandson), and her dams sire, Adrian, was an Open Jumper and competed under the 1976 individual Olympic silver medalist, Michel Vaillancourt.

One of Mariah’s half sisters, Blyth’s Madeline GS, competed up to 2* level (old 1*) and then competed up to preliminary with a young rider and won AEC’s Novice Amateur division this past year. Another one of Mariah’s half brothers, Marco Polo GS, is currently successfully competing at Prix St George level dressage with an amateur.

Mariah spent last winter season in Ocala, FL. She has been to shows and off property schooling numerous times and has been to HITS Ocala. She will be going back to Ocala this January if she does not sell before then. Mariah has a clean bill of health and clean x-rays on file. She trailers, ties, ties to a trailer, bathes, clips, and hacks. Mariah would be greatly suited for someone looking for a lovely prospect to bring up the levels or for an amateur or kid looking for a super nice super sweet horse with lots of potential!
Text or email Jessica or Caroline for more info! Located in Ontario.

Stromin Cowboy. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

6 year old, 15.3hh, bay OTTB Gelding for sale

Stromin Cowboy (Monte). Lovely restarted 6 year old, 15.3hh, bay OTTB Gelding for sale. Monte has wonderful ground manners and is uncomplicated under saddle. Monte is simple to ride on the flat with three lovely gaits. He is started over fences and is a brave and careful jumper. Monte is smart and learns quickly, he only gets better with every ride. He would be perfect for a young rider or adult amateur to bring along up the levels. Monte has a wonderful temperament and is sound with recent x-rays available on request. He is not one to be passed up as he is going to make someone a great horse. Monte is currently located in Southern Pines, NC. Very reasonably priced but will increase with training.

Storybook Love. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Flashy 8 yo 16.2H Dutch Warmblood Gelding

Storybook Love “Olly” is a 16.2h 8 year old Dutch warmblood gelding. This horse is all flash! Beautiful, talented, and brave. He was purchased by an amateur from his breeder in Canada earlier this year. He has miles as a jumper in Canada, and since then has hunter paced, XC schooled extensively, and been on hunt trail rides in Middleburg. Olly has the movement and jump to go to the top levels in any discipline. Priced at 25k. Email [email protected]. Located in Pennsylvania.

Looking Good FLF. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Lovely Dressage horse ready to Event!

Looking Good FLF is a 6 year old 16.1 hand American Warmblood gelding. He has shown USDF recognized First level with scores as high as 68%. Lots of unrecognized horse show experience, LG is a perfect gentlemen to trailer/braid/ etc and is sound barefoot. He has been XC schooling several times, and is fine with drops/ditches/water. Jumping bigger every week, LG is ready to go eventing. He hacks alone or in company. Would be well suited to an ambitious amateur or teen looking to have fun and come home in the ribbons. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect it today, but I’m SO proud of both of these boys and their efforts on the XC at #ojc3de. Kilkenny Mile has grown up so much in the year that I’ve had him, and until today we haven’t had a XC jump penalty. Unfortunately I made a bad decision that resulted in an irritating and unnecessary 20. My error aside, he breezed around the course and made it feel ridiculously easy. #xcmachine Really not the end of the season that I was hoping for with Lismakeera Brewski in our CCI4*L debut, and I learned a hard lesson. He was absolutely FANTASTIC on course today, and we were having our best XC ride yet. Sadly I walked the wrong line all week and ended up jumping the wrong “B” element at fence 15, which resulted in a TE. I’m so unbelievably disappointed, as he was giving me a great feeling and I know he would have made easy work of the rest of the course. Luckily Carlo thinks he won, and that’s what’s important. ❤️

Adelaide Royalty: Hazel Shannon & Willingapark Clifford Claim Record Third CCI5* Win

Hazel Shannon and Willingapark Clifford. Photo courtesy of the Australian Equestrian Team.

It’s official: Hazel Shannon and Willingapark Clifford are the first combination to earn three CCI5* wins at the Australian International Three-Day Event. Their achievement permits their entry into an elite five-member club of horses who are triple winners at the same venue, a club that includes the likes of Avebury and Winsome Adante.

A scattering of rails through the division muddled the standings considerably, all while giving Hazel three poles worth of breathing room with Terrance Snow’s 14-year-old Thoroughbred. She ultimately used eight penalties worth of that with two rails failing, but still secured in her win on 38.7 penalties.

“Us competitors are always striving to be better, I would have like to have had a clear round today but that didn’t happen so I will be going home to work on that next. So much work has gone into this for years, so it is nice for it to pay off,” Hazel said, admitting that she was shocked to have won.

Stuart Tinney and Leporis. Photo courtesy of the Australian Equestrian Team.

A one pole round moved Stuart Tinney from fourth to first with five-star first-timer Leporis, an 8-year-old Holsteiner (Lasino x Miss Danny, by Heraldik) owned by Stuart and Karen Tinney, on a score of 45.9.

“He is just such a sweet personality, it was tough for him all week but he knuckled in and gave me his all and he is a super horse,” he said.

Lauren Browne and Sky’s Da Limit. Photo courtesy of the Australian Equestrian Team.

Hailing from Western Australia, Lauren Browne and her own Sky’s Da Limit 12-year-old Thoroughbred (Hurricane Sky x Our Cutey, by Carry A Smile) saw two fences fall with an additional 0.4 time penalties for a final result of 47.4 to finish in third place.

Amanda Pottinger and Just Kidding dropped from second to fourth with three rails down for a score of 48.1. Hamish Cargill earned third aboard Legolas KPH on a result of 54.9.

Hazel Shannon & Willingapark Clifford Close in on Historic Adelaide CCI5*-L Finish

Hazel Shannon and Willingapark Clifford. Photo by Julie Wilson.

Defending champions Hazel Shannon and Willingapark Clifford are nipping at the heels of history this weekend at the Australian International Three-Day Event where they are two steps closer to a historic third win.

She and Terrance Snow’s 14-year-old Thoroughbred became the predicted favorites after posting a 30.2 in the dressage phase — a five-star personal best for this duo that had them sitting second.

They only improved in the cross country phase where a double clear result had them take over the lead, but not after some controversy. Hazel was initially awarded 15 penalties for missing a flag at an arrowhead at 11b, but it was later removed.

Twice a winner at Adelaide, if Willingapark Clifford jumps clear tomorrow, he’ll join an elite club of horses who have won three five-stars at the same venue. The likes of this club include Great Ovation (Badminton ’71, ’72, ’74), Winsome Adante (Kentucky ’02, ’04, ’05), Avebury (Burghley ’12, ’13, ’14), and fisherRocana FST (Kentucky ’15, ’16, ’17).

New Zealand’s Amanda Pottinger joined Hazel as the only other rider to finish clear inside the time with Just Kidding, a 13-year-old Thoroughbred (Fusaichi Pegasus x Gypsy Princess, by Sadler’s Wells).

Amanda and “Ferg” had a dominating performance here last year where they led the pack after cross country in their five-star debut. Four rails dashed their dreams of Adelaide victory, but as it stands today they are less than a rail behind the overnight leaders on a score of 34.1.

Five-star debutants Diane Gilder and Your Attorney took over third place after a clear round with just 5.2 time penalties. Lauren Browne and Sky’s Da Limit came home clear with eight time penalties for fourth place on a score of 39. Fifth place belongs to Stuart Tinney who jumped clear with Leporis (40.7).

In 2006, Sergeant 1st Class Richard J. Herrema died during an Operation Iraqi Freedom deployment, but his legacy and generous spirit will live on through Rick’s Place. He is remembered by friends and family as a positive, selfless and energetic man. The most important things in his life were his family and his faith.

Sport Horse Nation Spotlight: Black Beauties

In the market for a new four-legged partner? You may find your unicorn on our sister site, Sport Horse Nation. To help with the search, we’re going to feature a selection of current listings here on EN. We include the ad copy provided; click the links for videos, pricing and contact information.

So these listings below might all technically be dark bay, but you know what else they all do have in common? They’re quite striking and all listed for sale on Sport Horse Nation. Read on to see the listings and click the link for more information.

Sommersby. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Quality Young Horse – WINNING Record Through Training

“Sommersby” 5 yo 17 black Oldenburg gelding. Quality young horse that has been professionally produced. Fabulous gaits, dressage scores consistently in the low 20s. Great to jump, fabulous to gallop! Ready for Prelim/2* this spring. Versatile gelding that could easily step into the hunter or dressage ring. Located in South Carolina.

Poptart. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Poptart

Poptart is a 2010 German Riding Pony mare standing at 14.1hh. She is by the super pony sire Popeye and has competed in some low level dressage and jumping shows. Poptart is a super mover and shows great technique over jumps. Straight forward to ride, hacks out. Easy keeper. Located in Pennsylvania.

Archie. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

6 yr old 17 hand Thoroughbred Gelding – upper level potential

Archie (JC name Arch of Honor) is a 6 year old dark bay TB gelding and is a MASSIVE 17 hands. Last raced 10/7/2019 so is RRP Makeover eligible. He has had some cross training while racing and is started over jumps and has been on a few trail rides etc, though still considered green. Tons of ability and potential and very sound – no issues racing but not real competitive in it anymore and I think he would rather do something else.

The good: He is fun to be around with a quirky personality. Gorgeous. Sound. NOT a hot horse to ride, pretty mellow. Good feet. Natural at jumping.

The bad: He is a controlled cribber with a collar. He is annoying, though NOT dangerous for the farrier.
This is a very talented horse that could go right up the levels with just a little time put into his dressage and some practice jumping – he is a natural at jumping and enjoys it.

Located in Maryland.

Marvelous Reward. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

Mild and tall gelding

Marvelous Reward is a 16.3 hand 2015 unraced Thoroughbred dark bay gelding. Marvin has the mind of an aged draft horse in a 4 year old TB body. We have never sat on a more sensible 4 year old. He has been showing at starter trials (EL and BN levels) and jumper shows since March and has acted like a schoolmaster at them since day one. He often scores in the 20s in dressage and always jumps a clean cross country. He is absolutely honest and brave. Great indoors or out, loves hacking around. Great for toddlers to be around and be led around on. He is extremely quiet and sensible, despite his young age, and would be suitable for an adult amateur to ride. I feel Marvin would excel as a foxhunter but can easily continue showing in all rings as he is so willing and mild (and a really great XC horse!). Trailers perfectly, stands for everything, super easy to have around, anyone can handle. He is sound and healthy. He is very personable and has no vices. $12,500. Located in Augusta, WV, 28 miles west of Winchester, VA. 309-376-2144. **If you email and don’t get a reply in 12 hours please call/text**

Midas Well. Photo via Sport Horse Nation.

2013 TB Gelding 17.3 Super Brain, Lovely Movement, Brave Jumper

Midas Well, “Tristan” is a lovely restarted 6 yo 17.3 hh OTTB, last raced in June of 2019. He has a super personality and is very trainable. Lovely on the ground and under tack, he will hack out alone or in company. Uphill and balanced walk/trot/canter on the bit, has a soft mouth and elastic gaites. Started over small fences, schooling ditches, banks, brush, logs, etc. Trailers and stands tied to the trailer easily. This horse would be suited for an ambitious amateur in a solid program or a professional looking for a fun horse to bring along. Has all the pieces to be a top-level eventing prospect.

Located in Lexington, KY. 917-822-2332. [email protected]. Price: $13,000.
