Santa Claus' reindeers should be Ponies !

Et si les rennes du Père Noël étaient en fait des poneys ?

We literally have zero idea what is going on in this video but we love it.

Somehow, the concept of ponies alternately saving Christmas and wreaking havoc on the holiday makes me think of the minions of Despicable Me: they’re small, cute, hilarious, wicked and wildly destructive. Come to think of it, perhaps minions were inspired by ponies in the first place??

Either way, this bizarre video set to “Christmas Time” by The Darkness is pretty adorably destructive, just like almost every pony we know and love.

Astute internet pony trend followers will recognize these plucky fellows as the same little guys who starred in the #DancePonyDance commercial put out by Three, a UK-based mobile network. That moonwalking pony basically burned down the Internet when the video was first released, and we’re sure this herd of Christmas steeds are headed in the same direction.

Go ponies. Go Eventing!

No more guesswork. No more worries.

The Cogdells & Mark Bellissimo Preview The Fork Horse Trials at Tryon

The Tryon International Equestrian Center has fast become a premier facility for multiple equestrian disciplines. Since eventing was debuted at TIEC during the American Eventing Championships, it was selected as host of the 2018 World Equestrian Games. And earlier this year, Jim and Bernadette Cogdell announced that The Fork International Horse Trials would relocate to TIEC.

During the cocktail hour preceding the Year-End Awards dinner at the USEA Convention, the Cogdells along with Mark Bellissimo of Tryon Equestrian Partners discussed transitioning The Fork to TIEC and introduced the below video. Watch and get a sneak peak at the location of the new cross country course that will be debuted at The Fork in April. Captain Mark Phillips and Tremaine Cooper are designing the courses on a converted golf course next door to the Resort’s main equestrian complex.

“I’m very pleased to start this journey with Mark,” said Jim Cogdell, who will remain the Chairman of The Fork at TIEC. “I saw something that is absolutely spectacular with the cross country layout and I want to thank Mark and all the team at Tryon.”

Bernadette echoed her husbands sentiments: “I am honestly very excited about The Fork moving to Tryon. I think we’ve done as much as we can do at our farm and the facility at Tryon is so far above and beyond.”

Mark thanked Jim for “having the faith in us to take his ‘child.'” He expressed confidence that there is an opportunity to grow the sport of eventing, increase sponsorship and engage spectators and is looking forward to working together with the Cogdells to accomplish this with The Fork Horse Trials.

EN’s 2016 Video Countdown: #9. The #RideForOlivia Mosaic

As we near the end of 2016 we're revisiting EN's most popular video posts of the year. Here's #9, originally posted on March 15 in the wake of the tragic loss of 17-year-old Olivia Inglis, who suffered a fatal accident on cross-country in Australia. #RideForOlivia

The mosaic created from photos of hundreds of thousands of riders all over the world was presented to the Inglis family this weekend at Olivia’s memorial service. The #RideForOlivia hashtag took on a life of its own, spurring riders from all disciplines and walks of life to share their photos in her honor.

This video gives us a closer look at the #RideForOlivia mosaic, as well as the sheer effort and thoughtfulness that went into its creation. We hope this brought some comfort to the Inglis family. Olivia’s memory continues to live on in equestrians the world over — we will never forget her.

When Tredstep first introduced the concept of a tall boot that flexes with the rider’s leg, the idea that tall boots could be both comfortable and look stylish become an industry standard. The boots break in quickly and are comfortable enough to wear around the barn while also looking super in the show ring. Click here to read EN’s experience of testing the Medici boots.

Wednesday News & Notes from Attwood Equestrian Surfaces

The Elf on the Shelf has become an ubiquitous holiday tradition in many households, with everyone trying to top each other for creative and inventive ways in which to pose Santa’s little helper. My favorite has to be the Destination Farm Elf on the Shelf, who joins in clinics, jump shows, and farm potlucks with apparent enthusiasm for his barn family.

U.S. Weekend Preview:

Christmas, obviously.

Your Wednesday News & Notes:

The USEF has proposed a significant rule change to fence construction to improve safety. Thanks to the studies implemented by the USEA and fundraising efforts, research now indicates that impact on the front rail of open oxers in either upwards or downwards force in the vertical plane can alter the trajectory and cause a fall. The USEA has proposed a new rule to the USEF that would require MIM clips on all front rails of open oxers and either MIM clips or reverse pinning on back rails. The wording of the rule does allow the development of future frangible technologies other than the MIM clip to be used once developed. [US Proposes Extraordinary Rule Change]

If you’v ever wanted a backstage seat to a four-star, here’s your chance. Horse & Hound is offering a chance to win press accreditation to the Badminton CCI4*. Potential photographers must submit three photos to be evaluated and a winner will be chosen to receive the press pass. [Taken a Great Eventing Photo?]

Daniel Clasing and Kaitlin Spurlock are tackling a topic often ignored. While most eventers go after already broken horses for their sport horse prospect, the popularity of the unbroken sport horse is growing daily. Daniel and Kaitlin discuss some strategies for using groundwork to establish a relationship with your young horse. [Establishing a Relationship]

SmartPak Product of the Day: It’s time for the great migration south, which means everyone should make sure all of their travel gear is in order. One of my requirements for long trips is for my horses to wear a fly mask to protect their eyes from any bits of hay or straw that might get whipped through the wind. With one horse who can get a bit claustrophobic if I close up the trailer entirely except for windows and vents, protecting those eyes is an absolute necessity. [SmartPak]

Michael Willham has got the classic long format on lock. After winning the Hagyard Midsouth Long Format Training Three-Day in 2015, he and his 8-year-old Irish Sport Horse Fernhill Cayenne (A.K.A. “Cayenne” or “Cay”) returned to take the Prelim Three-Day title this year in October. The pair led from start to finish, adding just 1.2 time penalties on endurance day to their dressage score for the win.

Michael is a big proponent of the experience. “I thoroughly recommend competing in a long format event,” he says. “It is a ton of fun, an excellent way to honor tradition, and an exceptional learning experience for both you and your horse. That is why I not only competed in the T3D in 2015, but came back to compete at the P3D in 2016 instead of contesting the CCI1*.”

When he first began entertaining the idea of doing a classic long format, however, he recalls, “I didn’t know what to expect, what it would look like, how to prepare, what would be required.”

He hopes this video cam of his Hagyard Midsouth run will help educate others about the experience: “This video is for those of you who are thinking about competing in a classic long format but are unsure of what to expect. I was in your shoes a little over a year ago, when I decided to compete in the T3D at Hagyard Midsouth in 2015.”

“It is still about 29 minutes long, so just be prepared,” he says. “However, if you were like me before I did my first T3D, I had a bunch of questions and would’ve willingly watched a half hour helmet cam video, if there was one available — I looked, I never found one! So this is why I wanted to run my helmet cam for the entire time this year. Hopefully this helps someone ease the anxiety about what is involved.”

Many thanks to Michael for putting the video together, which includes walkthrough text explaining aspects of the format Michael had questions on before he first competed in the classic long format. We love the commentary and tips scattered throughout, the speed/course data, and of course the view between Cay’s happy, pricked ears!

Best of luck to you and Cay in 2017, Michael! Go Eventing.

Need Info NOW at an Event? There’s an App for That!

Christmas has come early for eventers with the unveiling of the USEA’s new Event Companion App.

Have you ever been on the way to an event and realize you need the address?

Yes!

Or gotten in the warm up only to forget your dressage test?

Story of my life!

This app is designed to make your life easier and make all necessary competition information available at your fingertips.

Tell me more, USEA!

With the Event Companion App, you search and sort events by name, level or distance. If you have an event you regularly attend, you can “favorite” that event, which will save it to a personalized list. This allows users to quickly access information for their most frequented events. Your favorite events can also be stored offline, so you can access information even when you are out of network. Eventually, the app will be able to give push notifications for the opening and closing dates of these events.

Whoa.

“The USEA Event Companion was created to quickly provide important information that you need while you plan, prepare and participate at a USEA competition. While the first version of the app has its limitations, we have big plans for it,” says Robert Winter, USEA Director of Information Systems Management.

“The USEA is supporting its ongoing development, so there will be regular new features and fixes. In the near future, it will expand to support both recognized and registered events, event app notifications, deep result searches and integrations with other third-party eventing apps.”

You can check out a full list of features here. The app is free and now available for iOS and Android devices. Download it today, and if you have any feedback or ideas the USEA invites you to share it with them — email [email protected].
