12 Days of Giveaways, Day 4: Win a Supplement Bundle from Kentucky Performance Products

It’s time to kick off the final month of 2022 with some free stuff — everyone’s favorite! This year, we’ve partnered with a whole slew of brands for these 12 (or more!) giveaways. There will be plenty you won’t want to miss out on, so remember to check back on Eventing Nation (and also, there are giveaways happening daily over on Horse Nation!) each day through December 12.

Today (December 4), we’re teaming up with Kentucky Performance Products to give away a supply of three top supplements: Ker-A-Form, Summer Games Electrolyte, and Joint Armor, plus a tube of Trouble Free paste. That’s three of KPP’s most loved supplements, all coming your way!

Ker-A-Form is a scientifically formulated coat and hoof supplement that is named after one of the tissues it was developed to nourish “keratin.” Keratin is the fibrous protein that forms the main structural component of hair and hooves. Without healthy keratin, hooves and hair grow slowly and become dull, dry, and brittle. The combination of nutrients found in Ker-A-Form support keratin as well as multiple other components that make up healthy skin, hair, and hooves.

Summer Games Electrolyte is a unique blend of both electrolytes and trace minerals specifically formulated to replenish critical electrolytes in the proper ratios. Summer Games supports healthy electrolyte balance so horses stay hydrated, perform at optimal levels, and recover faster after exercise or in stressful situations.

Joint Armor’s complete formula provides your horse with the nutrients necessary to support both healthy joint cartilage and synovial fluid.

Spooky, tense, edgy, unfocused. If these words describe your horse, a calming supplement could make training easier and riding more fun. Trouble Free is scientifically formulated to support proper nervous system function and help your horse maintain a more confident, focused, and relaxed disposition.

Congratulations to Caitlin R. — you’re our winner!

‘Tis the season to deck the stalls! Or, if you’re feeling extra festive and are blessed with a tolerant mount, why not deck the whole horse? That’s what riders in the Maryland Horse Trials Donation Cross Country Derby did yesterday. We love to see it, so tag your festive eventing photos with #GoEventing and we might share it in an upcoming News & Notes or #ICYMI eNewsletter.

Register for the First Paris Olympics Ticket Draw

Hoping to attend the Paris Olympics in 2024? Your first chance has finally come to snap up some tickets to the biggest competition of the next four years, with the opening of the first draw opportunity.

This first draw for tickets will be for those spectators who want to see multiple sessions of sport: successful applicants will get the chance to buy tickets for three sessions, with all sports and seating tiers available for purchase in what’s been dubbed a ‘Make Your Games’ pack. Nearly 10 million tickets will be made available for purchase across the various sales windows, and 750 total sessions of sport will take place throughout the Games, as well as the exciting Opening Ceremony, which will be held along the River Seine, and the Closing Ceremony.

The equestrian sports at Paris 2024 will take place at the Palace of Versailles.

The draw, which opened on December 1st, will remain in situ until January 31, giving you ample opportunity to get your name on the list for a shot at tickets for the Paris Games. Those who are accepted from the draw will be granted a 48-hour window within which to purchase tickets for their sessions of choice during February and March — though another draw will open in March to give those who miss out in round one another shot at getting into the room where it happens come 2024, with individual tickets available during the second draw. If you want to guarantee your tickets, and you’ve got deep pockets to do so, there are also some very cool hospitality packages available.

Those wishing to put their name in the hat will need to do so via the official Olympic ticketing site. No other website has permission to sell Olympic tickets, so beware if you see a deal that looks too good to be true — it almost certainly is. This method of sale might make it slightly harder to get your hands on your tickets, but it does stop scalpers from snapping up all the seats and gouging prices, which anyone who’s tried to buy Taylor Swift concert tickets lately will be all too familiar with.

Eventers Win Big at Horse & Hound Awards

Nicola Wilson and husband Alistair. Photo by Peter Nixon/H&H.

Her Late Majesty The Queen’s pony Carltonlima Emma won the Agria Horse of a Lifetime Award at last night’s Horse & Hound Awards 2022 in partnership with NAF. Fell pony Emma enjoyed a successful breeding and showing career before spending 15 years hacking with The Queen in Windsor Great Park.

The mare achieved worldwide fame at the age of 26 when she waited patiently for Her Majesty’s coffin to arrive in Windsor, one of the most poignant moments of The Queen’s funeral day in September.

Lizzie Briant, who produced Emma for the show ring, collected the award and said: “I persuaded Terry [Pendry, The Queen’s stud manager] to buy Emma for The Queen as a broodmare. She had such an incredible temperament, so I asked if I could show her and Her Majesty said yes. She was born on the Fells and is a typical Fell pony – she’s sure-footed, forward going and never minds any atmosphere. She is a lovely ride and the kindest of mares.”

Showjumper David Broome won the Horse & Hound Lifetime Achievement Award. David rode at five Olympics and won 14 championship medals, including Britain’s first individual Olympic showjumping medal, a bronze in 1960 in Rome. That year, he was the first British rider to be named sports personality of the year.

David said: “I’ve had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed it. Every win’s important on the day and I’ve had a lot of fun. I can remember winning a £50 class at Malmesbury, beating all the young riders in it. I was about 40 on a horse that couldn’t go very quick and I managed to pull off a bit of a turn – I was tickled pink that day!”

More than 300 people attended a glittering evening to celebrate the seventh Horse & Hound Awards on 30 November at Cheltenham Racecourse.

Guests rose to their feet for Nicola Wilson, the event rider who was seriously injured at Badminton, when she was named the winner of the HorseDialog Inspiration of the Year award.

Nicola paid tribute to everybody who has supported her and particularly her “phenomenal” husband Alastair, and spoke of her plans to train and mentor other riders at her Yorkshire yard.

“Horses and the sport is what I love. I’ve dreamed of competing at the top all my life. It’s sad seeing an empty yard and it would be lovely to be part of others’ journey,” she said.

“So many people have helped me achieve what I’ve achieved. I’ve had a wonderful time to date and it’s important to me that I move into the next chapter of my life with the same positivity and determination as I did the first.”

An Eventing “Showcase” is a unique version of eventing competition that condenses the traditional countryside eventing environment into a spectator friendly venue. The showcase format allows the general public the chance to be up close and personal, right next to the Capt. Mark Phillips-designed condensed cross country track, and experience the thrilling sport in a whole new way. It’s also a unique prep for the horses, most of whom will not see any sort of atmosphere in competition until they get to Kentucky.

Live streaming of this event will be carried on Horse & Country. Dressage and show jumping will take place on Friday, March 3, while cross country will provide the finale on Saturday, March 4.

Product Review: Pantes by Eques Pante

Never did I ever think that my writing career would include reviewing underwear online, but boy am I glad it did.

Eques Pantes are the latest trend in equestrian riding underwear. Made in the USA, the slimming and sculpting knee-length “pantes” are designed to be completely seamless underneath your breeches. The custom, eco-conscious, moisture-wicking fabric is also designed to prevent chafing or rashes along the inner thigh, which is a common problem for many equestrians.

Founded by Jessica Andrews, Eques Pante was developed by an equestrian for equestrians. According to their website, her goal upon founding Eques Pante was to create “quality, durable athletic underwear that stays put while it also slims, sculpts, cools, wicks sweat, dries quickly, prevents chafing, and looks cute,” all without any panty lines.

So, do these pantes hold up to their claims? I put the Eques Pantes through a full day of work at the barn, plus riding, to find out if they do everything they claim.

My first impressions after getting my Eques Pantes were promising. The box itself had a nice easy-to-open design and the pantes seemed to be made of thick and sturdy fabric. I was able to pull on them and stretch them without signs of gapping at the seams or being able to see through them.

Now, if I’m going to test out a product, then I’m going to really put them through all the rigorous aspects of barn life, and these pantes were definitely put through the ringer. The first time I tested them out, I wore them for about 6 hours. During this time, I mucked 16 stalls, fed 20 horses, and walked in them constantly while turning horses in and out to pasture. This was not a walk in the park and the pantes were up to the task! For their first time out, I wore them underneath jeans and with a belt, which is my standard wear when I’m doing barn chores.

Beautiful packaging for this made in the USA product!

My biggest worry was that I would have the same problem I have with a lot of leggings or athletic wear: they tend to slide down or roll down at the waistband. Because of their knee length, I was also worried that these pantes would roll up at the knee from the continual friction of my jeans. But my worries were unfounded, these Eques Pantes stayed in place. I would, however, suggest sizing down for additional compression as their sizing is pretty generous. The size large that I normally wear was just a bit on the bigger side.

One bonus that I wasn’t expecting was that the pantes kept me warmer than I would typically be on a cold autumn afternoon at the barn. The extra length, plus the high-quality fabric, made me feel almost as though I was wearing long johns or thermal underwear, all without any visible seams.

While they performed well when worn underneath my jeans, I could tell the Eques Pantes were designed with breeches in mind as their first and foremost priority. The fabric has just enough slip to allow your breeches to slide seamlessly over the pantes, just like they would over your skin. I didn’t notice any visible seams underneath my breeches, but you could feel the slight seam towards the knee of the pantes if you ran your finger over it. Despite that, I still don’t think any seams were visible.

The pantes didn’t impact my freedom of movement at all, and I could still move in the saddle just as comfortably as if I were wearing breeches alone. I don’t typically get chafing from riding, unless I’m riding out for hours at a time. However, I feel as though these pantes would do a phenomenal job of protecting my legs no matter how long I was in the saddle. The thick fabric covers all of the vulnerable skin on the inner thigh and definitely creates an extra barrier between yourself and the saddle.

Many equestrians work hard to stay fit when they’re out of the saddle, which may include taking up other sports such as running or yoga. If you’re one of these equestrians– these pantes are a must-have. The knee-length design is perfect to prevent the inner thigh chafing that so often plagues runners.

I could also imagine myself relaxing with some Sunday morning yoga in these pantes, without worrying that they’re falling down or that they’re see-through. The thick fabric means that you can downward dog all day long without worrying about the view of the person behind you.

Long story short– these Eques Pantes are well worth the investment. It’s not everyday you find a product that actually does everything it claims, but these pantes have managed to do it. Particularly for riders who struggle with chafing or saddle sores, the Eques Pantes could quickly become a must-have.

12 Days of Giveaways, Day 2: Win a Free Motion Breastplate from Correct Connect

It’s time to kick off the final month of 2022 with some free stuff — everyone’s favorite! This year, we’ve partnered with a whole slew of brands for these 12 (or more!) giveaways. There will be plenty you won’t want to miss out on, so remember to check back on Eventing Nation (and also, there are giveaways happening daily over on Horse Nation!) each day (some days more than once) through December 12.

Today (December 2), we’re teaming up with Correct Connect to give away a popular Free Motion Breastplate (or, if that isn’t your style, an item of equal/ value!).

The Free Motion Breastplate is designed to allow exactly that: free motion of the horse’s shoulder. Photo courtesy of Correct Connect.

Correct Connect designed the Free Motion Breastplate without a strap that would ordinarily go between the front legs, coupling that choice with a naturally-fitting chest piece to create a product that allows full range of motion from a horse’s shoulders. If there’s one important thing about tack, it’s that it should never interfere with your riding or your horse’s way of going and comfort. This concept alone makes the Free Motion Breastplate worth a try!

Here’s some more on Free Motion Breastplate:

If this isn’t quite what you’re looking for, however, the lovely ladies at Correct Connect have offered up an item of equal value to our winner.

Congratulations to Sarah D. from IL — you’re the winner of this giveaway!

Disclosure: The entry form collects email addresses, which will be shared with EN as well as the sponsor of the day’s giveaway. You may receive a few emails from EN and the sponsor, from which you’re free to unsubscribe at any time (but you’ll miss the fun!).
